I'm looking forward to extremely clear comms from the Council as to the consequences of fitting spending to a central-government imposed rates cap.

I, for one, feel both anger and disappointment - we don't have to choose one or the other, Janet.

Winston 2.0: *wrings hands*
Oh
You can literally see where this government increased our exposure to oil price shock
There is no reason for this other than oil money funding politics

"We'll have hundreds of older residents [in Dunedin] looking for somewhere else to go, and there isn't anywhere else obvious for them to go."
People need to understand the implications of what 'rates capping' means in practice, and this is one very stark example of where we are heading.
So if we want to know why dialysis is being rationed, there's a clear answer: it's so the 311 richest families in the country can enjoy one of the lowest effective tax rates in the world. We're killing people in order to make the ultra-rich ultra-richer
If this turns out to be true, I want it on the record that I got in on it early. #nzpol
Yes, Christchurch hosts Operation Deep Freeze. From Wikipedia: "The United States Air Force 13th Air Expeditionary Group deploys to Christchurch, New Zealand during the operational season."

Are we back on track yet?

I also don't think he's capable of being any clearer.
Yeah, most countries have a policy of not negotiating with terrorists, right?
I have similar anecdata from the Sumner / Mt Pleasant way - primary schools may see their rolls shrink over time due to changing demographics.
"Christopher Luxonβs Government has intentionally increased homelessness. ... They must make different political decisions to stop the growing problem, and instead ensure that everyone in this country has access to a safe, warm, dry, and affordable home."

Love to see it!
The Government is negotiating a WHAT with the WHO that would grant access to WHAAAT?!

This is our regular reminder that - according to IRD in 2023 - the richest 350 families in AoNZ pay an effective tax rate of only 8%. The reaction of the government to this news was to tell IRD to stop collecting the data, and give the families a tax cut

The Student Management System I get, but the FIRE system???
More than 2700 high school students will be forced to complete classes remotely on Thursday, after a contractor working on the street outside their school mistakenly cut the internet. Burnside High School, Christchurchβs largest school, said on its Facebook page the school would be closed on Thursday and students would have to complete compulsory online learning. It said a contractor working on the water mains replacement on Greers Rd had inadvertently cut the schoolβs internet connection on Wednesday morning. βThe outage means our student management systems and some fire systems are not operational,β the post said.
I beg your pardon some WHAT systems are not operational due to an internet outage?
Running the government is a lot like playing recorder β it doesnβt work if you suck.

There is no way we can rates cap our way out of an intergenerational infrastructure deficit.
Our Draft Annual Plan will go out for public feedback from Friday 27 February until Friday 27 March 2026. If you have reckons about defunding the Climate Resilience Fund (and the Environmental Partnerships Fund) you might like to submit.

Incredible.
I wonder if anyone at Lyttelton Port Company, CCHL, or Christchurch City Council is following this news? Top Canadian pension fund halts deals with DP World over Epstein ties.
πsame. RNZ certainly doesn't have any problem naming him at every possible opportunity. When he's back in the news cycle I have to avoid their bulletins. (I'm no one special in terms of the Muslim community or March 15, I did volunteer a couple of shifts in the recovery centre in the aftermath.)
