That's me done for #lbf for another year. Lovely to see publishing friends, as ever

Hmm, my most authentic version of myself is someone who hates wasting time and money buying clothes. And who wants to keep warm without spending a sh*t-ton of money on heating. This leads to a 'style' that looks like a luxury destination for clothes moths

Before any more *people* die. US military lives are not more valuable than the lives of Iranian children or other civilians

We don't want your rubbish! Exile/deportation is not an option. Deal with your own waste

It only takes one. Just one. You'd think of all the people who could do it, one of them would be willing to risk their life to save the world, wouldn't you?

Don't know. Never heard of him

I didn't appreciate Prynne's lectures as a student, but he's actually brilliant

even just less psychopathic would be an improvement, though

I thought about that, but it's like the limits of willing suspension of disbelief in scifi. It works within the parameters of the genre - you accept the alien but not unrealistic psychology of the humans. I accept a mouse can walk between two mountains on a tightrope, but not bend gravity!

WTAF is wrong with #adobe? Note that this image of 'Dimetrodon' can't be used in a 'misleading' way. It's very existence is misleading. Does no one ever check this AI slop? #permian #airart #dimetrodon

Would be better to object to concentration camps for reasons other than your declining property value, but I guess it's a start

I'm a working British person. The system is unfair to everyone. It's obviously unfair to migrants. It's also unfair to the rest of us as people ready and willing to work and contribute are not allowed to do so, which would help us all

It's warm and sunny, the tortoise is outside for the first time this year and the garden smells strongly of violets. I'll take the good days as they come

OMG the broken physics of that picture would drive me nuts. The centre of gravity of that mouse is on the left of the wire (as we look at it). It's going to fall off. Needs to shift its stick slightly to the right

The Once and Future King by T H White. But - as a former medievalist - Malory's English is really not at all hard. You'll quickly get your eye in and find it no harder than Shakespeare. If you want to read some other good medieval King Arthur stuff, read Chretien de Troyes (in trans)

That's not unhinged, it's what everyone thinks

In the UK we pay the equivalent of about $8 a gallon - it's taxed, not subsidised

Earth possibly had rings about 460 million years ago, formed from bits of a massive asteroid that broke up. Also Earth has temporary extra moons every so often, but they're small

26.02.2026 13:29 ๐Ÿ‘ 0 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

it's only at this moment in time that they match in size. Previouysly, Moon was larger and far in the future it will be smaller

Oh dear, what a shame, never mind. BTW can writers claim against DeepSeek for receiving stolen goods? Or does stealing stolen goods not count?

I hope Anthropic will have to jump through just as many hoops to try to get compensation as writers have to jump through to claim anything from Anthropic

Being self-employed, I've always been remote. It's really not hard. Do the work, do it well, do it on time, they carry on valuing you. No singing and dancing needed

It's not boomers. They're past retirement age now, so not doing any of this

I'd say he was told to kill himself. Like a plea deal - going down anyway so 'take the short route home' as he put it himself. Like Socrates, kill yourself for corrupting the youth (but really for endangering T et al)

"west is falling, all because of the deep state and the elites" - well, yes, because the elites are in the Epstein files....

16.02.2026 17:53 ๐Ÿ‘ 0 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

only one of them? which one?

16.02.2026 17:52 ๐Ÿ‘ 1 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

I think he was persuaded to kill himself. Hence changing his will, writing that note saying he was taking the short route home, and the cameras being off. Plea deal - kill yourself and you don't have to do the trial and execution/life
