Event studies of prescribing of a paid drug after the initial payment for that drug, showing that prescriptions only increase for non-altruistic but not for altruistic physicians.
2๏ธโฃ Less altruistic physicians (and only them!) also prescribe more of a paid, more expensive brand-name drug, after the payment.
Histogram showing that altruistic physicians typically receive lower-valued payments, while the share of high payments is higher for non-altruistic physicians
Two highlights:
1๏ธโฃ Less altruistic physicians receive 2,184 USD more in annual industry payments: 254% higher than their altruistic peers.
