So after years of having my only exposure to Saints Row being Saints Row 4, I have finally picked up 2 and 3.
Which has not changed my opinion that Saints Row 4 is still the best one of the series
This isn’t exactly a new strategy for them, they neutered the ACA then said public healthcare didn’t work. They cut services then complain that the services are working as intended to further justify cuts. The point is to create problems they can whine about

I’m not saying Magic will never die because it hasn’t died before, everything dies eventually, but cutting out potential new customers to Magic isn’t exactly going to keep it alive. I hate a hyper capitalist approach to it, but WotC is a corporation, and their job is to make money, that’s kinda it
Is this something that WotC has stated is a goal? Because with all due respect, I’ve heard the “Magic is going to die because of this” thing at least once a year for the last 10 years and most of the time it’s just an extrapolation of current data to the extreme. They could absolutely change paths
But people have the capacity to look at the magic IP and like it. It’s not like playing FF cards means you’re never going to see or hear about places like Kaladesh which is final fantasy 7 coded as hell. It’s not like some silo they’re locked into

Final Fantasy has been out since 1987, they clearly took efforts to make sure the source material was respected, and used their world building in cards, it’s not like this is a new IP that just showed up

Magic had bad sets before UB, and FF, LotR, AtlA showed that you can make a UB set that’s well received, plays well (aside from a few power outliers) and people like. The issue isn’t “UB is ruining Magic” it’s that 2025 had a lot of sets, of course you’re gonna see the range of set release
The thing about UB hate is that it’s like some hate towards people who got into it because of that, like you’re not a real Magic fan if you just found the game through final Fantasy or smth. And all of the (valid) criticisms of WotC’s current model isn’t the fault of UB players
