While the average rental prices continue to fall across the country, Nanaimo is one of several communities to see a rise in rent prices.

Last year, BCβs Human Rights Commissioner reported a dramatic rise in online racial slurs and threats directed at Indigenous people.
Since the Cowichan and Gitxaala court decisions, scare mongering has proliferated. Indigenous people are being harassed and some fear for their safety.
Today in Question Period, MLA @robbotterell.bsky.social asked what the government is doing to protect the safety of Indigenous people.
It's not enough to condemn the false rhetoric that First Nations are coming for private homes. We need strong provincial leadership and concrete action.

MLAs with both the BC Conservatives and the BC Greens say the NDPβs Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Amendment Act, 2026, is part of a long-term erosion of access rights and will make it even harder for people trying to get information from the government.
Andrew MacLeod reports.
Job cuts at museums put our shared history at risk. Replacing dedicated workers with AI means fewer people to bring Canadaβs stories to life.
Our museums shouldnβt be asked to do more with less. We need to invest in the workers who share our collective stories.
Iβm working with Governor Gretchen Whitmer on trying to save The Great Lakes from the rather violent and destructive Asian Carp, which is rapidly taking over Lake Michigan, and all of the beautiful surrounds. Iβll be asking other Governors to join into this fight, including those of Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, New York and, of course, the future Governor of Canada, Mark Carney, who I know will be happy to contribute to this worthy cause. Separately, I am also working to save The Great Salt Lake, in Utah, which, in a short period of time, if nothing is done, will have no water. This is on top of everything else I am doing. Only βTRUMPβ CAN DO IT! President DONALD J. TRUMP

4b) A union should include all voices and absolutely oppressed voices should be prioritized. But leaving spots open and not including a group of people to fill the empty seats, this is the stuff that's sending weaker men to "Men's Rights" & far-right groups.
4a) It's 100% okay to prioritize people who are not white, straight, middle aged men with no disabilities for conferences BUT when you say that we CANNOT apply for a general conference & you'd rather have a spot stay empty than have someone like me there, that's you acting like us "oppressors".
3) Enough with the virtue signaling talking about international issues while criticizing the govt. You grandstanding about Palestine doesn't help us have stable, safe, fair jobs. A Union's primary focus is their members. Period.
2) The back-to-office mandate complaints are the most suburban/middle-class whiny bs I've ever heard. Frontline, highways, & assets staff all have to show up to work everyday, office staff can too. We have to drive on winter roads to get to work OR we have to use time off, we can't work from home.
1) Solidarity? Bullshit!
There is a distinct class break within the union. The frontline workers/highways/assets vs the office workers. With most frontline staff being seasonal, our problems are often ignored. Clean a toilet/outhouse, drive a plow or garbage truck, or work with tools? You're trash
With my time as President of the Union Local coming to an end (April 1), I have spent the last 2 years trying to "tow party lines" with the Union. Even though I'm staying on as a Shop Steward indefinitely, I got A LOT of grievances to air with the #ParksCanada union (PSAC-UNE)....

Exactly. If they wanted to fix it fast, they'd spend the money fast. They'd get the people in as fast as they could, like building a bridge
