Why Computers Will Never Write Good Novels The power of narrative flows only from the human brain.

Computers can’t grasp the most lucid haiku. Nor can they pen the clumsiest fairytale. Computers cannot read or write literature at all. And they never will. πŸ§ͺ

Let this day be a reminder of how power can be abused and taken down if people come together and stand against it.

It was exactly today in 1986 here in the Philippines, when the power of the people had ousted a tyrant in a bloodless revolution.

Even in times when democracy itself is in peril, the spirit of EDSA kept on shining across the world in our fight for real freedom.

Dietary fructose enhances tumour growth indirectly via interorgan lipid transfer - Nature Dietary fructose enhances tumour growth in animal models of melanoma, breast cancer and cervical cancer indirectly via metabolite transfer.

The food industry extensively uses high-fructose (HF) corn syrup in the US. This study shows that the liver converts dietary fructose into lipids, which distant tumours use to grow faster. The authors show that an HF diet promotes skin, breast and cervical tumour growth πŸ§ͺ

Blow fly's larva's butt looks like a termite's face.

Termite nests are nutrient-rich and secure spaces that everyone wants to live in (but few actually can). The blow fly larva's looks and chemical profile matches the termites' well enough to integrate into the colony.

a, e shows the cumulative value of the methane conversion gap over time, i.e., the sum of the yearly differences between reported methane emissions and emissions computed under the most recent GWP100(GWP20). The trifurcation of the solid lines from year 2021 shows the gap under the fossil and non-fossil GWPs from AR6, as well as their average. b, f shows the cumulative distribution of the methane conversion gap across companies under the most recent GWP100(GWP20). c, g shows the cumulative value of methane emissions as reported and as expected under the most recent GWP100(GWP20) (N = 9375).d, h left y-axis shows the average methane conversion gap across key sectors under the 100-year (20-year) counterfactual. The error bars are standard errors of the mean (N = 8713); low methane emission sectors and the bottom 1% of the gap distribution are excluded from the visualisation and the estimation of the averages. The grey dot-dashed line shows the sample averages across time, whereas the grey shading shows the standard errors. The black dotted line in the right y-axis shows the total gap over the sample, including all sectors, by year.

There are several greenhouse gas (GHG), but we report emissions in CO2 equivalents, because it's simpler and clearer. But that opens an issue for accounting in how you convert those GHGs to CO2, esp. when not everyone is using the same factors. πŸ§ͺ

It's easy to forget that climate is not uniform. Take the so-called Medieval Warm Period (which or Medieval Climate Anomaly in newer literature). Western Europe was warmer, but the Middle East and some Mediterranean coastal regions were cooler. πŸŒŠβš’οΈπŸ§ͺ
