Just so we're all clear, this is a war crime and would be punishable by life or death under U.S. law.
And worth noting also that there's a subset of Americans (namely folks with small kids and/or mobility issues) who end up really alienated by the glibness of bike/public transit folks, who might be more open to car alternatives if their needs were treated with more seriousness by those advocates.
Yesterday's high in Silver Spring, MD was 84 degrees. At 5 AM this morning it was 71, as of noon, it is 36 with moderate snow. This is why we love weather y'all.

I just cackled
yup exactly. honestly post c-section and while nursing, I needed someone to feed me! I needed someone to pick things up off the floor. I wasn't cleared to drive but we had a lot of newborn appointments. It's wild to me that anyone doubts that parental leave is necessary
And then exactly 18 months later I had a second c-section and a second baby (because honestly an 18 month old is still a baby) and a giant dog at home and was recovering from HG and once again, parental leave was not a nice to have, it was literally life saving for all of us.
I do kind of hate how people are like "but his other ideas are novel and intriguing!" Are they? Or should we maybe consider that some of this toxic nonsense has seeped into those and we're just being conned by another intellectual seeming white guy who kind of hates women.
I don't think me and my first born would have survived our first 6 weeks together in the outside world if my husband hadn't had parental leave. I find the discourse about if dads are helpful in those early days to be infuriating, even if all these men are saying is that they're shit dads + partners.
I remember having an immediate dislike of him much like my immediate dislike of Emily Oster, and both have proving to be so, so worthy of my complete and utter disdain.

A deeply underreported story. I know so many people struggling to pay their electric bills

We called the State hotline. First thing you hear is an automated message: "Do not rely on the U.S. government for assisted departure or evacuation."

According to PEW, teens in households making under $75K are more likely to use chatbots for help with all or most schoolwork. I read a comment on another platform that said this is amazing news because we are "finally going to close the achievement gap." That is not how I would interpret this data.
New β I spoke to eight trans people in Kansas about the new state law that invalidated their driverβs licenses overnight, whatβs itβs like to live there right now, plus details of two DMV emails exclusively obtained by The Handbasket that shed light on the lawβs chaotic and cruel rollout:
If you've been watching Love Is Blind for years and feeling like it's become more and more blatantly MAGA-codedβwith increasingly misogynist men, you're not alone. Had to blog it out. www.wired.com/story/love-i...
It seems all Kansas-issued trans drivers' licenses are invalid, effective tomorrow
It is now illegal for trans people to drive a car until they surrender their license at a DMV (that most will need to drive to) and have it reissued with the wrong gender marker

zohran increased the number of snow shovelers from 500 to 1,400 for this blizzard, paying them $30/hour to shovel sidewalks with at least a four-foot berth so that wheelchairs and strollers can get through. he didn't overhaul city government to do it, he just used the power given to him and did it!
So, just to recap, we have two random DOGE bros with basically no knowledge or experience in the humanities (and at least one of whom is a college dropout), who just went around terminating grants that had gone through a full grant application process by feeding in a list of culture war grievance terms, selecting out the grant titles based on the appearance of seemingly βwokeβ words, then asking ChatGPT βyo, tell me this is DEIβ and then sending termination emails the next day from a private server and forging the directorβs signature. This is what βgovernment efficiencyβ looks like in practice: two guys with zero relevant experience, a keyword list built on culture war grievances, and a chatbot confidently spitting out 120-character verdicts on federal grants that went through actual review processes. The experts who might have explained what these grants actually do? Locked out. The director whose signature appeared on termination letters? Couldnβt tell you which grants got cut or w
Ever wondered how your grant got cancelled? No we know. Some college dropout asked ChatGPT "is it DEI/woke"?
