Absolutely! I was warned by smarter people than I to take extra measures. It's not foolproof because nothing is, but I'm so glad I listened.
It just makes it so if you want to open any lines of credit, get a job, anything that requires it they won't be able to view it without issue. My new job couldn't verify me because they couldn't look mine up because it was locked down.
At the time when things still worked as intended, I just went to the SS website and did it from there. But remember if you want to do ANYTHING you have to remember to unlock it.
