Not just that, it wasn't even the first console to support online modes. There were ways to play SNES/Megadrive online as well. Even the NES had some basic online functionalities for stuff like banking.
Been digging the Saturn recently due to a cartridge that can play backup games. A number of fan translations that are all amazing.
That being said, most people will probably lean to the dreamcast. Making your own writable cds play on it is easy and you can still game stuff like Quake 3 online!
