It helps when the next reporter doesn't work for a hand chosen right wing outlet like the Epoch Times or Zero Hedge. Trump chooses the outlets that get access to briefings like this and includes a lot of "new media" right wing sites.

Trump (unlike predecessors) is picking outlets for the press pool, with many more of the outlets represented being more interested in covering FOR the President than covering him.

Agree, just found it a curious factoid in light of the book subject. The 1944 position even more curious, but it was a time with a lot going on and people's positions on all things were shifting. He's new to me, I look forward to getting better acquainted.

The Saturday evening post column is hard paywall but it seems the gist was that beating the Nazis in 1939 would not do any good to defeat the overall problem of "man's animality toward man." Um, my dude.

In 1944 he said at a War Resisters League gathering that he was not a pacifist but was a conscientious objector to WW2. I knew some old WRL guys who were consciountious objectors in WW2 but they were pacifists across the board.

Just the part quoted here hits hard.

I was curious that I might know a relative of the author so I looked him up. I was surprised to learn that in 1939 he published a column "I Think I'll Sit This One Out" arguing against joining the war.

Netanyahu is an idiot if he isn't trying to influence Trump to play his way. Trump should do the same. Jews are PEOPLE who have agency like all people. Trump is an idiot so I'd expect any war partner to try to do whatever they could to influence him.

But the thing is that Netanyahu is a PERSON with agency. With power of persuasion. A job he thinks he needs to do. Jewish PEOPLE can be good bad both neither. Jews are just people not magical beings incapable of being influential or trying to get their way when they are running a government.

I never claimed Israel is running the show but with Trump being an idiot and Netanyahu being competent it's possible that the seasoned battle hardened guy could have more influence. Or Trump could be a bloviating big shot who refuses all suggestions, even the good ones, I have no idea.

Partners in any complex project tend to influence each other. As a real live person who has worked on major projects with others I am aware that with the nature of personalities, expertise, commitment level, etc it's not uncommon for one party to end up having more influence.

Whatever influence the Trump and Netanyahu governments have on each other's war policies are not the influence of "Jews", "Christians", "Goys" or whatever.

You need to stop conflating the current government of Israel with all Jews. A war is being waged by the government of Israel, not by "JEWS".

I don't doubt that Israel wants regime change but how would they see a permanent failed state of 90 million people working out in their favor? That sounds like a nightmare for them. Clarification on this thinking requested.

I lived through all the post Ruby Ridge and Obama era right wing paranoia about being tracked and surveilled by Big Government just to watch them completely abandon it because it was only ever about racism. "Guns and freedom" were only the window dressing.
