Van Hollen: "They really think the American people are stupid. I mean, we can all see the video. We saw the video with Renee Good. We saw the video with Alex Pretti. The real domestic terrorists are in the White House right now."

Tokyo is a city that makes the argument that architecture is irrelevant.
What matters more is urbanism:
The street network
The density
The freedom of uses
The clustering around rail
Going to once again put this out there for zero reason whatsoever. Just a coincidence that it's budget week in Calgary.
One suspects that some of the suburban councillors may go after downtown.
It's like pouring vinegar in your eye to cure dry eye.
βFor half a century, a litany of federal policies has favored large SUVs & trucks, pushing automakers & buyers toward larger models. Instead of counteracting #CarBloat thru regulation, policymakers have subtly encouraged it. That has been a boon for car companies but a disaster for everyone else.β
Why do the mobility devices that are designed and marketed to conquer all terrains always get the most attention to have a squeaky clean pavement, while everyone else is left behind?
βCarspreadingβ to be word of the year in 2026.
Huge thanks to the Publications Committee, and all authors who contributed ideas, insights, and projects. Our 2025 edition of Terrain showcases a strong cross-section of contemporary urban, natural, and cultural works and perspectives across the province in landscape architecture. buff.ly/CkURylt
The transformation is extraordinary.
High density residential street in downtown Vancouver with 5(!) rows of street trees creating βkissing canopiesβ.
This is really important.
The main thing that makes it hard to achieve integrated nature and green in cities isnβt density of buildings or density of people β it's density of cars. And the more well-designed and integrated density of people & buildings you achieve, the fewer cars you need or want.
β0% Travel to USAβ is a Smart Response to Trump's 10% Tariff
A further 10%? Really? Fine.
Fellow Canucks, let's make Vegas fail. Florida dry up and fall into the sea.
No travel to Trumpland. Zero. Nada. Zippo
Let's see who hurts whom the most

Keep calm and buy Canadian.
Canada: Walk away from negotiations. Don't retaliate. Diversify. Find new markets. Buy European military equipment. Reinstate the digital services tax. Let Americans pay more for the things they want from us. Keep up the public boycott. Welcome American refugee talent. Be Canadian. #cdnpoli #USpoli
Awesome to tour the new Coronation Park Velodrome today as part of Edmonton Design Week. Hope to see you at the other events!
You might think that the mayor of Yellowknife, the capital of Canada's vast Northwest Territories, would be a fan of giant pickups.
Nope. He's disgusted by car bloat.

Image of line and arrows painted in asphalt that looks like the way design drawings would depict a cross section
Saw it on a walk and wonder where I can see the corresponding cross-section.

Venn diagram with stable services, low density, and low taxes. The area in the centre said βDoes Not Exist.β And itβs correct.
My semi-regular reminder of a really important reality about cities, density, services and taxes.

This is just awful news. A passionate cyclist, highly respected doctor and he was really a poet at heart.

THE HYPOCRISY IS THE POINT!!
I know a lot of things have been called the fascist βcanary in the coal-mineβ recently, but Trump and the GOP going after comedians for making fun of them is clearly quite a bit past the canary in the coal-mine.
Political rhetoric notwithstanding, you're much safer on a bus or a train than in a car, or walking or biking near cars. buff.ly/nypIfGj
Same in the UK. News cycle stuck on immigration merry-go-round with usual suspects pumping up the volume.
The Handmaidβs Tale should be a school mandatory reading!
UCP government MLAs have submitted proposals to Alberta's independent electoral boundaries commission to redraw several urban ridings and blend them with rural areas:
When I became a Senator, I started flying a lot. Back and forth from Edmonton to Ottawa - not to mention flights to conferences and events. I had never before understood the archaic way that flight attendants are paid. The clock only starts when the airplane door closes. π§΅
Don't use wetransfer.com. To receive a file I had to sign up for a trial recently. It lapsed, and I was unfortunately billed $336 to get the one file. Even though I'm within their terms to request a refund, I've submit 3 requests and it seems purposely designed to make it difficult. Feels scammy.
Canada has dramatically higher transit modeshare than the US is something people clearly need to hear much more often.
Wait, so youβre saying there IS a line thatβs too obviously depraved, corrupt and immoral even for MAGA?
Huh.
It is becoming increasingly unpleasant to be the customer of a giant corporation in the United States.
Every new technology seems to be used to further protect corporations from the rage of their customers, thus allowing the management to care less.
