This is so early in Superman’s existence, barely 2 years in, that his ‘S’ symbol had to have the word “Superman” over the shield, because not everyone knew who the character was yet. But this also shows how popular Superman was already, that he was a presence at a global event like the World’s Fair.
I remember when this came out (I still have this whole run in longboxes…we know it ain’t ever getting reprinted). I remember when this issue established Hal as middle aged, it made me wonder if Superman and Batman also were, since they were all contemporaries.

If you do nostalgia in such a way that it’s genuinely heartfelt fun, there’s no need to hate enjoying it. Nostalgia is really only bad when it’s weaponized.

I’ve been thinking this very thing; and as much as the Buffy cast has bad feelings about JW, the Firefly cast all love him. He obviously treated them differently. Whatever happens, I’m sure the internet will be extremely normal about it. My gut says he writes/doesn’t direct. He gets paid regardless

I would have very much liked a flashback scene of the OT trio in TFA, but Star Wars is very much a generational saga… I think they were right in focusing on a new younger group of character’s struggles.
I had a dream this morning that I saw an old movie on TV starring Ellen Barkin as a hippie burnout/recovering addict in early ‘70s San Francisco, where she’s stalked by a group of Satanists who seek to make her their ritual sacrifice, but no one believes her. I’m now sad this movie is all in my head
I see Terry Matalas got a special Saturn Award. I don’t care what he does in the future, it could be zero, but I say he deserves it for making this moment happen, & making me ugly cry more than any other media has in recent years. Thank you sir. I must say though, this movie is super niche, and as gorgeous as it looks, I don’t know how they spent $80 fucking million on it. Niche movies were once made for niche budgets, wtf happened to that logic?
So #TheBride is pretty messy, but also very my jam. It’s hard for me to resist a version of the Bride of Frankenstein that is a mix of Harleen Quinzel and Patsy Stone from AbFab. If I’d seen this movie at age 15, it would have become my entire personality.

Wac-A-Mole was exactly where my mind went.
It was total exploitation and cringe. But it was the only media at the time we were openly existing in… even if it was as a televised sideshow carnival for the amusement of straight people.

As I suspected, my brain retained about 30% of what happened last season. I can remember the titles and dialogue from really old shows in my brain like a steel trap, but it just deletes so much new information from all these multiple TV narratives I now consume after a few months.
