Another recent project I loved: an infographic on rainwater recycling in Brazil for Instituto Serrapilheira!
Such a rewarding collaboration!π³π²

How does the Amazon forest sustain Brazilβs agriculture?
This was what researchers from @serrapilheira.org studied and asked @joanagcc.bsky.social and I to communicate with an infographic. This piece goes along their results in a technical note sent to Brazilβs Supreme Federal Court.

I had the honor of designing a field guide that spotlights 222 species of pollinators in Portugal. These creatures play a vital role in our ecosystems, supporting over 75% of agricultural crops. Yet, their populations are declining, a reality that makes this guide more urgent than ever.

βͺ2024 was a year of growth, fun projects and amazing people. π€ΈββοΈ As a Science Visual Communicator, I collaborated with great researchers so that their results shine in a cover or are better explained in graphical abstracts or grant applications. Here is a glimpse of what this year looked like.
I may not know all details about Iceland's politics but it's comforting to hear Halla not only advocates for feminist values, an updated version of capitalism and bolder climate actions but still gets elected by the people. This story may be a drop in the ocean but, for me, it is a drop of hope.(6/6
After finishing the chapter, I searched about Halla and realized that she was elected this year, 2024, for president in Iceland. On a rather hopeless day, like yesterday, when another incompetent and overconfident man was elected, it was refreshing to hear about this story. (5/6)
Story short: she ended up running for president that year and despite having only 1% of support one month and a half before the election, she ended up in second place with 28% of support. (4/6)
She later started receiving petitions to be a candidate for president of Iceland in 2016 but, at first, she disregarded her experience and felt less confident about running for president. (3/5)
To exemplify this effect, Adam Grant told the story of Halla TΓ³masdΓ³ttir, a competent person, who successfully managed and led an investment firm, with principle-based and gender-balanced leadership. The firm was one of the few to survive in the financial crisis of 2008, in Iceland. (2/5)
Yesterday I was reading about how competence and confidence usually diverge, in the book Think Again by Adam Grant. This is a cognitive bias called the Dunning-Kruger effect where less competent people overestimate their abilities and on the contrary, competent ones underestimate them. (1/5)

I support scientists in their research as a lab technician and make their work visible and understood as a Visual Science Communicator. What about you? #sheworksinscience #WomenInScience
