It's hard to ask the average person to buy into a social contract of looking after one another when the rich and powerful are exploiting and inconveniencing everyone in every single facet of life and are getting rewarded for doing so.
I badly want a high-trust society but the catalyst for this has to start at the top. Stop ripping people off at airports and sports arenas. End shrinkflation tactics. Stop plastering advertising on everything. Don't let billionaires get away with evading taxes.
This is what actual an "big tent party" looks like but you're not going to hear it from the people who scream about it the most because their view of "big tent party" is "going on a podcast with a venture capitalist."
