Clearly the answer should have been orientability
6 bad doodles with text under each one. horseshoe crab is literally the animal horseshoe crab. shoehorse crab is a crab riding a shoe, cowboy style. crabshoe horse is a horse wearing literal crabs as shoes. shoecrab horse is a horse telling a crab to go away. crabhorse shoe is a pair of shoes, left one crab shaped, right one horse shaped. horsecrab shoe is literally the same pair of shoes, flipped.

Laser goes brrrr β‘οΈβ‘οΈβ‘οΈ
We got our new fiber lasercutter up and running finally! here it is making its first test cuts in stainless steel
We've just made our largest custom jigsaw puzzle yet with ~4000 wood pieces! This is going to be insanely difficult to assemble
Oh no. I got chipmunked
This is how we assemble our metal sculptures from flat sheets without any forming or fixtures
Omg! It's THE Craig Reynolds!
Yes, it is surprisingly hard, though there are a lot of fun ways to assembly those tiles that don't fill the plane. The "hat" feels a little less freeform. Somehow our daughter immediately was obsessed with doing it "right" even without prompting.
Reaction MΓΆbius pendant is a Mobius strip with an embossed reaction diffusion pattern
Me wearing the necklace every single day
Thereβs still time to order Nervous System jewelry (and puzzles!) for holiday delivery. My daily necklace is the Reaction MΓΆbius Necklace in 3D-printed stainless steel. It's virtually indestructible and doesn't tarnish n-e-r-v-o-u-s.com/shop/product...
Merry #Crustmas! I've added the new whimsies from our Ocean Tapestry and Bioluminescence puzzles to the custom puzzle app, including a crab and scorpion. I've also decreased our lead time so you can squeak in a custom puzzle order before Christmas.

Weβre doing our first in person holiday event in years this Sunday at Art of Play in Brooklyn. Come say hi if youβre in the city
www.artofplay.com/pages/brooklyn
Today, the children discovered the box of hundreds of βhatβ tiles, the aperiodic monotile. Sometimes itβs nice to have your own puzzle factory.
Brooklyn friends: Nervous System is popping up this weekend at the Art of Play shop with 4 other NY makers from 11-7pm on Sunday. Come say hi and shop mathematical puzzles, sculptures and jewelry www.instagram.com/p/DR0a8Oljyr...
Of all my photos, this is easily my favourite I've ever taken. This amphipod is legitimately about 1mm in size. So small your eyes can't make out any details on it. They refuse to sit still. They run away from the light. It just looks like a grain of sand.
Genuinely a 1 in a million shot.

A fun finale for the #nudivember festivities! Isn't it pretty? And it does look just like it has a leaf for a cape!

ahah IT WORKS look it's a CΒ² dual quaternion B-spline!!
this is interpolating *poses* in dual quaternion form, coupling position and rotation, instead of treating them independently (this is a really neat thing!!)
Oh nice. Is there a way to initialize the orientations in an βas-smooth-as-possibleβ way given just positions. I feel like sometimes itβs easier to tweak orientations once you have a good starting point.
I just gave a talk where a student asked "what do you call this kind of work because it's way more interesting than most generative art?" ::sigh::
I have no idea if anyone does these puzzles but we've been a bit delinquent on posting new Flummoxagon puzzles. I just posted 2. Please let me know if you try them

"dad why did you name me Lissa"
"so that your life will be colorful like the decorator crab Lissa chiragra, darling"
"why is my little sibling called Lybia"
"so that they grow up cheerful like the pom pom crab Lybia tesselata"
see, this conversation works

four radiolaria sculptures sitting on a black surface
Radiolaria are microscopic unicellular sea creatures that create skeletons from silica. Their skeletons are among the most beautiful and complex natural microstructures, resembling elaborate filigree. blog post: n-e-r-v-o-u-s.com/blog/?p=9861

I just uploaded this week's Flummoxagon puzzles. I _may_ have made the expert level one a little too hard. Let me know!
n-e-r-v-o-u-s.com/flummoxagon/
I posted our second set of "weekly" Flummoxagon puzzles. For now, we're doing this completely manually. These 2 puzzles focus on the 2-hex piece. The small pieces tend to be tricky because they can fit anywhere, so we didn't include them in any of our initial puzzles

We have finally caught up on our initial Flummoxagon orders! The last ones are shipping today, and we have some in stock for immediate shipment. Has anyone received theirs yet? If so, how many scenarios have you done?

I'll be presenting at the Symposium for Computational Fabrication in Cambridge, MA November 20-21. If you're in town and want to meet up, let me know
