A recent study suggests peripheral blood levels of N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor (NMDAR) subunits may serve as biomarkers for predicting cognitive improvement in schizophrenia. NMDAR hypofunction may underlie cognitive dysfunction seen in schizophrenia.
