It’s about the gymnasts who survived SA and the systems that protect powerful predators. It’s not about Larry Nassar.
But I guess I’m also frustrated that with all the horrific powerful predators in the files, this is who we’re talking about. At most it seems she had a shady ex and met JE a few times. It feels like another case of men doing terrible things and women being punished for it.
I get it, and I develop new musicals, so I carry some personal baggage around people always assuming musicals are shiny happy shallow dumb hero-worshipping, etc. (especially people in the arts.) And it’s especially ironic in this case, when the show is about surviving SA and predators in power.
You know musicals can be about all sorts of dark and bad stuff (and people) too, right? Like there is nothing about the fact that it’s a musical that means it would be glorifying Larry Nassar. Which it isn’t, because also in this case I’ve read it and it’s about the gymnasts, not him.
