Absolutely! In these permafrost monitoring sites we measure aboveground plant community composition and belowground soil communities and structure in relation to thermal insulation. The project also includes a lab experiment and panarctic meta analysis. www.unis.no/project/insu... thanks for asking!
Back on #Svalbard for #fieldwork! I am starting up my student teams, and we began by monitoring snowmelt progression and #permafrost thaw. Thawing has just begane and already we are measuring 30cm of thaw in quite a few places.. We will see how this develops..
A day with very few appointments and meetings means I can play around with my #arctic #shrub samples in the lab. Why oh why did I choose the tiniest, most difficult species ever (Salix polaris).. I gave up with this sample :) 1mm diameter incl. bark. #treerings #dendrochronology #svalbard
