Absolutely honoured (and slightly blown away!) to be on the Women in Music and Culture list 2026! π― What a lineup to be part of, these women are all incredible examples of the people that make Scotland such an exciting cultural place.

Emily Nordmann's inaugural lecture is available now on YouTube. This is the leadership we need & Emily is the type of person we need to shape education - for both students AND staff. I urge you to watch this, it's affecting, provocative, and funny too.

Gender affirming voice work focuses on giving people more control over how they use their voice, and how they sound to others and themselves. Here's a brief introduction to what we do in gender affirming voice sessions.

After working with gender affirming vocal training I've written a blog on gender & voice perception. This is always a matter of broad generalisations, but there are a few indicators often perceived as more feminine/masculine.

"From the brain to the heart, singing has been found to bring a wide range of benefits to those who do it, particularly if they do it in groups. It can draw people closer together, prime our bodies to fight off disease and even suppress pain."

Really enjoyed a weekend full of training in Singing for Lung Health and Sing To Beat Parkinson's. Really interesting to see where there is and isn't crossover in the approaches and to start planning to set up some groups in the Glasgow area!

Naidheachd brΓ²nach - disappointing that we can't expand and develop choral performance at the MΓ²d. Protecting tradition is very important, but so is ensuring culture and language develop and stay relevant. There is space for both.

Spent a really interesting morning training in Singing For Lung Health with The Cheyne Gang. Was really taken with this quote shared by @geographysings.bsky.social about the power of blending into a community of voices.

At the ALT conference today leading a drop-in lunchtime choir session. What a joy!
I've led a few of these & everyone really seems to get a lift out of them alongside the busy conference programme - I TOTALLY recommend adding these as networking/wellbeing sessions

Had a wonderful day running a workshop and stall on menopause & the voice at Stirling Science Festival! Loved seeing some competitive couples going head to head on the Truth or Falsetto game & chating with folks about the various effects of menopause on their voice.
