Govt atty: I don't think they'll know...
I think this would open the door for a lot of other things to be blocked by the govt if it's not American owned (think foreign apps, foreign news sources, foreign movies, etc) 😬

It’s estimated that small businesses will lose more than $1 billion in revenue in a SINGLE MONTH if the ban goes into effect.…
So I get it, it might not personally impact you.

TikTok / ByteDance wants ➡️ NOT to sell & for the U.S. govt to work with them to mitigate concerns about security. (They’ve tried to do this already).
WHAT WILL HAPPEN? TBD!
1) Tiktok wins, no ban, no selling
or
2) Govt wins & TikTok ban goes into effect 1/19
or
3) Some type of stay (pause)
Tiktok / ByteDance says ➡️ helloooo the 1st amendment applies and your national security risk doesn’t outweigh 1st amendment rights.
Solution?
U.S. Govt wants ➡️ ByteDance to sell off TikTok to an American company
U.S. Govt says ➡️ TikTok is a national security risk bc of its parent company’s (ByteDance) ties to China and that the Chinese gov can use TikTok to manipulate users in the U.S… aka there’s a theoretical risk of this (not proof of it happening).

ICYMI: the essential ban is due to a law passed last year (Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act).
It doesn’t ban TikTok outright but essentially stops companies from having it in their App Stores.
Tomorrow’s the big day: SCOTUS hears oral arguments on the TikTok ban set to go into effect 1/19/25.
