I don't want to alarm anyone, but there's a large, round, bright object in the sky. It looks vaguely familiar but I can't quite place it.
A large neon pink sign lit up on the side of the Hayward Gallery reading "You belong here" in cursive text
A solid start to the week pottering around London today. Starting off with Lee Miller at the Tate, then Riz Ahmed's new Hamlet and finally Mark Kermode live at the BFI with Posy Sterling, Archie Madekwe, Ben Wheatley and Jack O'Connell.
First gym trip of the year having spent the last few weeks trying to shake off a bug. Hard work but starting to feel a bit more human.
The sea beyond a pebble beach beneath an overcast sky. On the horizon the sky is glowing yellow and you can see the turbines of an offshore wind farm.
A stroll by the sea before the rain rolled in
Still under the weather, so another fairly low key week.

Most of my other good intentions have been thwarted by being under the weather, but I'm giving week notes another go this year: lee-batchelor.medium.com/weeknotes-05...
Not a fan of the dark evenings, but it does make for a nice cosy feeling workspace at the end of the day.

Made a friend on a snowy lunchtime wander to the shops.

Despite what my brain was telling me last night, I'm not back at work until tomorrow so a snowy day of de-Christmassing and trying to shake off the inevitable post-festive cold

A grid of posters from 16 of my favourite films of 2025. They're listed individually in the next post
I've still got some big hitters to catch, but 2025 felt like a good year at the cinema. Here are some of my movie highlights.
My enthusiasm for the gym didn't quite overcome my reluctance to scrape ice off the car in the snow this morning, so waiting for the sun to swing round and do the job for me
Pouting my way into 2026 trying not to feel hungover. Happy New Year! π
In the gym at 8 o'clock on Boxing Day like some kind of idiot
The stage at The Moth, with a gold foil curtain and large glittery letters reading Moth
So lucky to be ending the gig year on a high with @ben-watt.bsky.social and @traceythorn.bsky.social at the Moth Club. Such a great show, and nice to hear a couple of my favourite festive songs from Tracey's Tinsel and Lights album which is always on heavy rotation this time of year.
The jetlag is really kicking my butt this week π΄
Home. Having been up for 38 hours, traveling for 26 of them and slightly delirious. π€ͺπ΄
RIP Martin Parr. One of the best, able to fill an image with character, pathos and humour, in a style uniquely and immediately identifiable as his. Last year's "I am Martin Parr" documentary is up on iPlayer and well worth an hour or so of your time.

Can't believe I hit the jackpot in the @traceythorn.bsky.social and @ben-watt.bsky.social ticket scramble tonight. Can't wait to hit the moth club in a couple of months π
Asylum seekers, housed in hotels in Manchester, are reaching out in their own words to address the concerns of the local community.
Please take a minute to read their letter, & share it with the people in your life who need to hear the truth about the people they are protesting.
Finishing up #lff today with movies 10 and 11 - my third Josh O'Connor movie of the festival, The History of Sound, and What Marielle Knows.
Rebecca Lucy Taylor of Self Esteem on stage at the Brighton Centre. She's wearing a long black dress with a handmaid's tail style collar and hat.
Seem to have picked up another bloody cold from somewhere but Self Esteem at the Brighton Centre tonight was the best medicine.
The BBC are accidentally running the subtitles to Mrs Marple over the Mercury Prize, and itβs rather wonderful. A few of lines could plausibly have been written by Jarvis.
A solid triple bill today at #lff - Guillermo del Toro's Frankenstein; A Useful Ghost about a haunted vacuum and so much more; and queer French coming of age movie Enzo π¬

Kicking off #LFF today with Wake Up Dead Man and Twinless. Really enjoyed both, Wake Up Dead Man especially worth catching with a crowd on the big screen.
