today
they killed children
but this is not the headline
they turned their school to rubble
their families into ghosts
but this is not the news
today
it rained missiles
vaporised both innocent and guilty
turned a maths lesson into chemistry
their families into ghouls
but this is not so important

It was a privilege to be in the chamber earlier to witness this incredibly powerful and effective speech from Charlotte Nichols.

A little reported fact is that the Iranian frigate destroyed 2000 miles from the combat zone was carrying ZERO AMMUNITION (a condition of the exercise it was invited to participate in).
The ship was, by any definition, defenceless.
Much like the 80+ sailors left to drown.
Infamy.

UK puts emergency brake on study visas for four countriesβ nationals
Shabana Mahmood says UKβs generosity abused as study visas halted for nationals from Afghanistan, Cameroon, Myanmar and Sudan
I have personally seen the applications of many Afghani students to our gender studies programme: people who have started grassroots LGBT orgs; who have fought for women's education; who want to come to the UK to study to make their country & the world better...

Legalising and regulating drugs is about reducing the harm and deaths caused by drug use, and treating addicts rather than criminalsing them. It is appalling that Labour and Reform are playing politics with people's lives.

I decided to vote Green as soon as Andy B was blocked as there was no redeeming quality left. The Greens largely ran on a cost-of-living, NHS, public services ticket, the ground Labour have vacated. The sh*t posted through my door daily by Labour and Reform was disgusting. So glad it's all over.

Dear @lucympowell.bsky.social,
I have enjoyed our exchange of letters about which of our parties is best placed to stop Reform. Hannah Spencer MP and I trust that you agree that this question has now been resolved once and for all.
Thanks,

Peter Mandelson, the Russian superyacht and the scandal we completely misread. By Tamsin Shaw. Pictured: Peter Mandelson in front of a picture of a yacht
Remember Yachtgate - the original Mandelson scandal?
In 2008, he was caught on an oligarch's boat in Corfu. The Epstein files now reveal the full picture: a web of Russian money, paedophile kompromat and New Labour access that shaped a decade of British politics

This is entirely correct.
It is *also* true of Labour's earned settlement proposals -which while not as extreme/overtly racist as Reform's, would still have precisely this effect for hundreds of thousands of people
Not too late for government to change course

Labour minister falsely linked journalists to βpro-Kremlinβ network in emails to GCHQ
Exclusive: Josh Simons pressed intelligence officials to investigate reporters, in emails described as βMcCarthyite smearβ
Exclusive: Josh Simons claimed to be βsurprisedβ and βfuriousβ at a PR agencyβs work to investigate journalists on his behalf. He had been personally involved in naming them to British intelligence officials and falsely linking them to pro-Russian propaganda. w/ @dansabbagh.bsky.social

The US administrationβs insanity on vaccines continues to have ramifications across the world β it is not that America will miss out on these potential new vaccines. It is that they simply wonβt happen at all. (Or at least theyβll be indefinitely delayed.)

The crucial difference, in other words, is not that Starmer has made enemies, but how much effort his government has put into kicking its friends. The performative harshness of policies towards immigrants or trans people; the ministers or spokespeople whoβve noisily attacked universities, welfare claimants, public sector workers, social liberals β almost anyone, in short, who might be naturally minded to support a Labour government.
Theyβve attacked all these people, in a desperate attempt to make clear to racists and social conservatives that they hear them. If the racists and social conservatives were actually going to vote for them this would merely seem abhorrent. When they clearly arenβt, itβs stupid too.
No, it is not surprising that Starmer is so unpopular.
Jonn Elledge @jonnelledge.bsky.social sums up why Starmer is responsible for voters hating him after such a short time:

A Labour MP remarks: "Starmer will go down as the worst PM in Labour history ... Heβs a coward who refuses to take responsibility for his own actions. He is a moral gravity-well from which neither decency, honesty or integrity can escape. A genuine disaster for this country and the Labour movement.β
