And if I can do it all the way up here, you can probably do it your own self, and this bread is too good to not pass around. Legit I wish I had a potluck or something to go to in order to bring a loaf of it.

(also made legit chicken vegetable soup from a chicken over two days but THE BREAD, MAN)

-- everything I've attempted has at least partly worked. Rebecca has a ton of tiny one-cup-of-flour micro bread recipes for you to try that don't take up all your baking supplies and won't leave you with a ton of uneaten bread to go stale, and her instructions are clear and easy to follow.

-- and while everything up here above 7000 feet in altitude is varying levels of crazy, this bread does actually bake up with a decent crumb! Not as good as the sea-level version, but for seven thousand feet up I think it's pretty damn shiny. Try this, or any of the other recipes on the blog --

Crusty Rosemary Parmesan Bread in a Dutch Oven Β» the practical kitchen This easy no knead rosemary parmesan bread smells amazing and tastes even better. Bakes in a Dutch oven for a perfect crunchy crust!

thepracticalkitchen.com/rosemary-par... You also have to let the dough rise slowly for eighteen hours, which sounds like a lot but you can mix it up at half past eleven at night and bake it at six p.m. the next day and have delicious fresh bread for dinner --

helps that a bunch of my other favorite proven recipes are ALSO around the 400 mark, so I'm getting slowly desensitized to it, but regardless: this bread recipe bloody well works, every time, and it is insanely simple as long as you measure in grams and use a proper scale:

--for those of you just joining us, my house caught on fire back in 2014 and I have the PTSDs about it, so anything that might cause a smoke alarm to go off is guaranteed panic attack territory, so I do not like having my oven on that hot, but I'm getting better at it!

cannot get over how much I love The Practical Kitchen's no-knead parmesan rosemary bread: I've done this 3 times now and it works exactly as predicted (add baking time because altitude is bullshit) but like I MADE ACTUAL BREAD and all it took was patience and willingness to turn the oven up to 450--

why is this adorable, John?

because it is so adorable

(the little vest is a game changer, it is SO USEFUL when you don't want to wear a whole jacket and you can take it off and squish it down to nothing if you stop needing the warmth, and it has POCKETS)

anyway, huzzah for socks and splendid new outdoor clothing that looks as nice as it feels <3

the smartwool base layer plus down vest with a wind/rain-shell over it is the perfect answer to spring in a desert where it's freezing at night, blazing hot at midday/afternoon, and quickly chillier as the sun gets lower in the sky: you can take bits on and off as required: here endeth the lesson

I ended up with oversized olive-drab long-johns from Sunny's Surplus when I started winter camping as a kid and now I can just straight-up buy gorgeous coordinating merino wool that feels soft as silk against my skin and keeps me warm and dry and incidentally matches my new socks <3

also it is dead useful to have discovered how much better REI layers have become since I actually spent any time backpacking

like, Smartwool was straight-up not a thing, if you wanted a wool base layer you had to invest in an LL Bean River Driver's Shirt 2-layer henley

y'know there is something to be said for getting to the point in one's life when socks are not just a welcome but a delightful birthday present

(then again socks these days are WAY cooler than when I was a kid)

This reminds me of the heady days of tumblr when Roach and I would pass a chew-toy back and forth, it’s kind of glorious.

I would venture to suggest that β€œingroups” (sic) are not the only things he doesn’t do.

in that circumstance I the writer would go for "nasal congestion or obstruction" consequent on "mucosal inflammation" but also suggest "I hate everything"

also DEEP sympathy

if John Constantine could get it right for his punk band, you can too.

incidentally "phosphorus" and "phosphorous" don't mean the same thing

phosphorus is an element, phosphorous describes a substance that contains phosphorus, and from this we can suggest that the "ous" ending implies "containing, having, possessing, full of" whatever it's tacked on to

many thanks

today's spelling nitpick:

it's "mucous membrane" with an O. A mucous membrane secretes mucus. Mucus is what is secreted by a mucous membrane. A mucus membrane would be a membrane consisting solely of mucus, which thank fuck does not exist. Mucous membranes plural are "mucosa."

Please learn this?

some day I gotta actually get hold of that clip of the Women's Institute applauding that Python used to use as the equivalent of a reaction gif

which is to say YUP

ah, but money can be exchanged for goods and services

if I wanted for some ungodly reason to interact with a tiger I'd rent one 😁

This is thoroughly entertaining. I made it to about 1200 before I was guessing more than actually reading, but it's surprising how much you can just skim over and get the meaning without apparent effort.

HELL YEAH there is nothing like the sudden unexpected euphoria of having a doctor listen to you, take you seriously, and actually offer useful ideas, well done for all that work!
