Ian Mond, Locus: Slatter is a tremendous writer, with a body of work that puts her in the top echelon of contemporary fantasy authors. With AFD, sheβs elevated those skills to another level giving us a work that isnβt just a cracking story richly told, but also connects at a personal intimate level.

Black background with white stars. Against this are three book covers: THE HOUSE OF SHATTERED WINGS, which is solid green with a crest featuring a sword lying across the image of a tall building; THE HOUSE OF BINDING THORNS, which is solid blue with a crest featuring a tree with a regal crown perched atop it; and THE HOUSE OF SUNDERING FLAMES, which is an orange-ish red, with a crest featuring a bird circling a burning building. Text on the image reads: READ THE COMPLETE TRILOGY!! AVAILABLE IN EBOOK AND TRADE PAPERBACK. MARCH 10, 2026.
These were the first books I read by @aliettedebodard.com and I've loved her work ever since! It's so cool to see them released again with fabulous new covers by @fringe-element.net
This is just a small reminder that I had a new book out this year called The Red Labyrinth. It's a little book and it's about mad monks and a big labyrinth and other things, most of them terrible.
It makes ane excellent gift this coming holidays.
Absolutely adored it!
you know you'd think after a while, buffy's friends would have started taking kickboxing or something

Me in @meanjin.bsky.social on the debacle that is Creative Australia. βIf it canβt fight for all the meanings and freedoms of art, if it canβt defend what is precious in our cultural heritage and future, what is it for?β meanjin.com.au/essays/coura...
The Red Labyrinth by Ben Peek
THE RED LABYRINTHβs low page count belies the breadth and depth of Ben Peekβs vision. The setting is richly imagined and the characters are vivid and complex. Itβs an outstanding work of dark fantasy.
One day to launch! Tomorrow, The Lady, The Tiger, and the Girl Who Loved Death arrives in the world. Thank you to everyone who has supported this journey - here we go!
