Help! Viva in the UK on 17th. Currently in Australia. Etihad flight via Abu Dhabi on 10th likely to be cancelled. All Singapore/Cathay/Vietnam/China flights full or extortionate.

Any advice? Hold out or cop it and fly via US?

How do genetic association studies rank genes? Genome-wide association studies and rare-variant burden tests reveal complementary aspects of trait biology.

@hakha.bsky.social and I wrote a Research Briefing (with a lay summary + "behind the scenes") of our paper on how genes are prioritized by GWAS and rare variant burden tests. ๐Ÿงฌ๐Ÿงช

Direct effect of genetic ancestry on complex traits in a Mexican population Human populations differ in disease prevalences and in average values of phenotypes, but the extent to which differences are caused by genetic or environmental factors is unknown for most complex trai...

Brilliant paper by Visscher et al.

Populations differ in traits/disease burden. Are these differences due to genetics?

Comparing single variants or polygenic scores between populations is biased due to environmental confounders correlated with the variants.

A few thoughts on Herasight, the new embryo selection company. First, their whitepaper (drive.google.com/file/d/1EpFi...) implies that competitors like Nucleus have been marketing and selling grossly erroneous risk estimates. This is shocking if true! ๐Ÿงต

You Donโ€™t Need More Ideas. You Need a Better Question What Michelangelo, a Nobel Laureate, and a PhD Meltdown Taught Me about Research Questions

You donโ€™t need more ideas.

You need a better question.

A thread on clarity, chaos, & what a Nobel Prize winner, a mosquito net & a PhD meltdown taught me about writing (+ thinking) better.
