Our new paper is out, in proper format, in CJES today. It's a continuation of our stratigraphic framework development in the southwest HBL, together with Paleo environment data (UofT) and optical dating (UFV).
Absolutely true - I am more and more aware every day of the need to question established 'common knowledge'.
I also told students to me more like the cuttlefish - again, don't take the marshmallow because it is quick and easy and right in front of them

Stopped the bike ride for a little geology. Fascinating mud cracks that peel off in layers, and sticky clay underneath. Little minds shocked and amazed when they learned that mud cracks are found as 'fossils' too. #geology

Fire-induced rock spalling! This area burnt about 1-2 months ago. All of the little rock shards on the ground are spalled pieces of the granite boulder, overlying burnt soil and moss.
Before seeing this in person, I didn't really consider the mechanical weathering effects of fire!
