World Breastfeeding Week โค๏ธ
Campaigning for road safety near schools.
We urge the government to act now to dramatically improve commercial baby foods and support families to make informed infant feeding decisions. Our recommendations are below โถ๏ธ
I'm guessing it didn't include any information about the vitamins naturally provided by breastfeeding/giving breastmilk to toddlers...
What does it take to lead in local gov today?
What skills, mindsets & qualities are needed to navigate the choppy waters surrounding public services?
After a year of exploring with our council network, our new report shares what we found ๐ก buff.ly/JiKVood
The government should not be balancing the books off the backs of the poorest. ๐ข
They should be asking those who make an income from their wealth, to pay tax at a similar level to those in work.

Cover of The Lancet, March 8 2025 issue. The quote reads, "Both overweight and obesity increased substantially in every world region between 1990 and 2021, suggesting that current approaches to curbing increases in overweight and obesity have failed a generation of children and adolescents."

...and baby food manufacturers - and tighter regulation of both.
Better and wider education and information for everyone, starting in early years settings and schools.
More protection, support & promotion of breastfeeding for at least 2 years in line with UNICEF/WHO international recommendations.
This starts with diet and lifestyle in pregnancy, and addressing decreasing rates of breastfeeding, both globally and locally.
Wider determinants of health - roles for public health and governments to legislate.
Tackling key commercial influences such as marketing tactics of formula milk companies
Yes, this is absolutely disgusting of The Mail to conflate breastfeeding and sexualising breasts.
The UK already has the lowest breastfeeding rate in the world, which is mortifying. This article and the attitudes which drive it contribute to undermining breastfeeding.
Sexist and misogynistic too.
Think the CMA got it right by recommending the ban on advertising of breastmilk substitutes be extended to so-called follow-on milks.
A shame this is only being done from a marketing and monetary perspective rather than driven by the crucial public health imperatives.

I'd like to see the Princess of Wales comment on this, since she visited a prison mother and baby unit this week.

That's not what the past tells us.
There is of course an important role for gynaecological and obstetric care and treatment if needed. But not as the norm.
Please give a reference for this claim that nearly half can't have natural births. I have never heard that and don't believe it's logical.
The UK currently has the worst paternity leave offer in Europe.
Our latest modelling showed that increasing statutory paternity leave to six weeks at 90 per cent of pay could boost the UK economy per year by ยฃ2.6bn in the near term. ๐

Thanks for sharing your personal experience.
My point is the vast majority of births would be natural if supported rather than medicalised and lots of interventions used.
42 weeks is full-term.
Plenty of us give birth to bigger babies.
Of course medical help is there if needed, thank goodness.
Childbirth IS a natural process bodies are made for.
Midwives & physiotherapists are key to antenatal information/education/support on pelvic floor issues (including active/upright birthing positions & home birth option) & on postnatal recovery.
This article/viewpoint is one-sided & medicalised.
