Did you know that if NY had kept its original gerrymander for 2024, there’s a very good chance the Dems would have kept the House, giving them leverage to stop the gutting of American state capacity and oversight? You can’t unilaterally disarm in a war, and this is a war.

Despite all the handwringing about “intellectual diversity” the reality is that higher ed exposes young people to a vastly different array of people and experiences than almost anything else you can do.

In national elections, liberals like me ask leftists to be coalition partners — hold their noses and vote for a candidate they don't love to beat someone truly terrible.

In New York, the shoe is on the other foot. And we should be clear that we're willing to do what we ask of our partners.

it is, again, intensely funny that the entire country threw a massive "fuck that guy's birthday party" party in response to trump's birthday party

liberals and leftists making alliances to take power away from centrists is good, actually

How Progressives Are Unwittingly Aiding the Rise of Autocracy Dictators get an unlikely boost from the left’s identity politics.

What Kenneth Roth and others reduce to "identity politics" is always an effort by a particular oppressed group to be afforded the rights, privileges and protections enjoyed by a society's dominant groups.

It's the very promise of liberalism, no more, no less.

If I wanted to avoid pain, I would simply avoid voting for a candidate with a history of political violence promising a revenge tour upon the country that dared reject him.

Pediatricians say that childhood vaccines are safe. A heroin-addled nepo baby with a brain worm says they may not be. For busy voters, it can be hard to know who to believe.

Unfortunately you have to primary everyone, not just because they don't have what it takes to fight, but because they don't have what it takes to rebuild. Last thing you want is them to win by default and then tread water until the next Trump comes to power

A ranked-choice voting tip: pick me as your #1, then (as much as I appreciate Brian Lehrer caller Christine's question about ranking me five times) rank up to four more candidates you feel would be good choices for Mayor. And remember, don't rank Andrew Cuomo!

I don’t *like* economists because they think they invented the concept of utility and therefore know everything but they have real jobs and do real work. Some of it is even good. It’s a “physics vs. engineering” type beef. MBAs are astrology for Republicans.

Ngl it's hard to overstate how much contemporary evangelicalism has broken the brains of American conservatives, an ideology that allows you be ontologically righteous with no actual demands on you so long as you are a considered "a good Christian"

On the one hand, decades of libertarians warning about how concentrating power in the state would make the state much more dangerous if it was taken over by an authoritarian look pretty wise right now. On the other hand, lots of those same libertarians are now cheerleading for that authoritarian.
