Writer, reader, watcher, gardener. And these days, yeah, a prepper. Tricoteuse. Mother of cats. She/her. (Note: I don’t follow back and don’t expect you to. Also, my lists are for my own quirky use. Don’t treat them as blanket recommendations.)

The usefulness of a penny, the face value of a penny, and the production cost of a penny are three entirely different things.

The face value is the most irrelevant of the three, and should not be compared to the cost.

Is the _usefulness_ worth the production cost? That’s what matters.

My mom had a habit of falling in love with a food, eating only that until she got sick of it and then never wanted it again. Then on to the next food craze. (There was a period when she mostly subsisted on Twizzlers and beer. She never got sick of the beer, though.)

'St. Paddy's Day' is usually preferred over 'St. Patty's Day.'

'Paddy' is the shortened form of the original Irish spelling of 'Patrick,' which is 'Pádraig.'

'Patty' is the shortened form of 'Patricia.'

Astute summation from @vermontgmg.bsky.social.

"Instead, we have a government that has been repeatedly surprised by the most basic and foreseeable consequences of its own actions."

I keep thinking of Eisenhower as well, and of Marshall.

Why Has This Columbia University Protester Been in ICE Detention for Nearly a Year? Leqaa Kordia's family worries about her health after she was briefly hospitalized last week. DHS refused to give them information about her condition and she is still 'very sick.'

BREAKING: Exactly one year since she was detained, an immigration judge has just ordered the release of Leqaa Kordia — the last Columbia protestor still in ICE detention.

DHS has kept her, despite a magistrate judge recommending her release and an immigration judge already *twice* ordering so.

this is another example of what they all learned from the kavanaugh hearings.

when you’re losing, when you’re worried he’s going to throw you under the bus, you have to go totally feral.

you have to embarrass yourself by trying to brute-force a narrative shift from being on defense to on offense.

This site needs a break. Post 3 good things, none of which are the cessation of a negative.

1. Cats who let you pet their bellies and toe beans.

2. The sound of a burbling creek and bird song on a sunny day.

3. Warm cornbread with crisp edges slathered in salted butter and honey.

FICA raises 1.6T and its regressive, FIT raises 2.7T and its highly progressive, but at a certain point you have to address the FICA part in tax cuts, if you really believe. The SS limit is 100k, so if you're like, no federal taxes under 100k, well, there goes SS

I...don't recall saying they were.

I'm simply leaving instructions on how I'd want my death politicized on the offchance that, God forbid, their RETALIATORY actions (or, somewhat more likely, my own government's false flag attacks) get me killed.

Understand now?

The anti-Zionist Jews in your life are all freaking out because we knew this would happen. We warned this would happen. We've been scared of this happening. On some level, since forever. On another level, since October 7 2023.

You don't need to tell us about Israel's government's crimes. We know.

Trump's war in Iran is already creating the conditions for ISIS 2.0.

We see surging civilian casualties and a migration crisis.

We've seen this before in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Syria.

Destabilizing a region produces a generation with a grievance, and extremism resurges.

There have been 61 political killings in the US from 2022 to 2024 and all of them have been committed by right wing extremists . Let me say that again all 61 killings were committed by republicans!

Google's AI Searches Love to Refer You Back to Google The company's generative AI search tools increasingly cite its own services, like Google Search and YouTube, over third-party publishers.

The number one website currently cited in Google’s AI search mode? It’s Google.

The second? That’s YouTube, which is also owned by Google.

Google’s using circular hyperlinks in AI Mode to keep users locked into their platforms. My latest for @wired.com:

My friend Jocelyn, one of the Broadview 6, saw her charges dropped today. It was such great news, but her first thoughts were about people who are still facing charges here in Chicago and in Texas for resisting ICE, and of course, the many people who are still being held in detention.

A frustrating trend I see in organizing spaces is “if it’s not for me, it’s abandoning me.”

The resistance has done a great job reaching out to some demos while missing others, but proposals geared towards expanding reach to diff groups are often shot down.

Making the table bigger isn’t exclusion

I am Iranian what are you talking about? They went in the streets in the millions and the regime turned military grade weapons on them. They detained tens of thousands, most of the women gang raped. People injured in hospitals chase down and shot point blank in the head. Children shot in the eyes.
