11/ If you're interested in understanding what a Rent Controlled apt is - something only long-time lifelong NYers really understand, since that was ended in 1971 and those in RC apts were grandfathered in, let me know. I started a post that explains that complicated situation before going to this.
10/ Between my health/being disabled (which IS a problem with the stairs - 3rd fl, 49 steps!) and being an artist/photographer, I have to say thank you for this apt every day, despite the fact I never wanted it, and it's not the best place for my mental health (quite dysfunctional family/childhood).
9/ and this remained her legal address until she passed away, so on those grounds, I'd been here 18 years before it was passed off to me.
8/pass off back in 2001. But since they remained married, it remained jointly their apt under marital communal property laws, so I'm the one pass off. I was here with Mom for 11 years before she ever even left the apt, and this remained her legal addressleft the apt,
7/ on my health that she had to go to a nursing home. She passed away from covid in 2020. (My dad had passed away in 2015.) So I'm the last one standing in the apt.
RC apts can only be passed on once because theyre so cheap. If my parents had gotten a divorce. Mom would have counted as the one
6/ when I got back on my feet, but by the time I was doing a bit better, my mom was developing Alzheimers (but refused to acknowledge anything was wrong), so I had to stay as her covert caregiver. We lived here together until 2013, when her condition was bad enough, and it had taken enough of a toll
5/ In April of 2002 I was experiencing severe health issues, and moved back in with mom, giving up my own, rent-stabilized apt.
Even knowing how cheap this rent would be, for various reasons, I had no interest in inheriting this apt. I planned to move out of NY
4/ We lived here as a family from 1967 to 1988, when I moved out and got my own apt in another neighborhood. My parents lived there together until early 2001 when they separated (not divorced, important re the succession!) and my dad moved back to GA where he was from.
3/ to find a job and apt, and the 1st place he checked for an apt was our old building. There was a larger apt on the same floor, so he took it. (Amazingly, our line and it's mirror across the hall are the *large* apts in the building at ~425sf! At least our smaller bedrooms are actually room size!)
2/ and importantly, just passed on once. We moved in here when I was 2.5. (Actually. We lived across the hall in a smaller apt when I was born. We moved out of NY for 1.5 years when I was 11 mos old. When we were moving back, my dad came ahead
1/ Yes. This is essentially it. Sorry I didnt get back to you yesterday. My apt is actually Rent Controlled. meaning it has an obscenely low rent, and it can only be passed on to a set group of familial relationships - so cousin, yes; cousin's boyfriend's sister, no -
One more because it is a true favourite.

Persephone just discovered that Mom-Hooman had something called βcombβ that is the best itch-skritch EVER.
Persephone now herds Mom-Hooman into the Room of Skritch at least thrice daily, bleating like a goat and nipping at her feet.

I heard the audio. He said it.
Lord. What have y'all done.
I'm very lucky that I inherited thr apt I grew up in - family's been here since 1967! - 425sf in a walk-up (49 steps!), with one of the cheapest rents in the country! Otherwise I'd be on the street. (Only child, both parents gone, so no safety net.)

Vaccines protect you from infection, and/or protect you from getting the worst complications of the disease.
In addition, by being vaccinated, you are protecting all of those around you, including the young, the old and the immunocompromised.
