In a flat and arid grass and sagebrush landscape, with a mountain ridge in the distant background under a storm-cloudy sky, a band of mares and foals trots and canters right-to-left in the image. Leading the band is a young chocolate brown mare with a days-old foal cantering at her side to keep up. Behind them we see a gray colt, a silver-gray mare, a bay yearling and bay mare, a white-gray mare, and a black foal, all trotting in the brown mare's wake.
