Terry Nation and the BBC in 1978, not so much predicting as warning about the future.
We had a whole day yesterday when it didn't rain and now we are paying a thousandfold for our hubris. It's like a Greek tragedy but with weather instead of incest

Remember, children, hate-watching is just as good as any other viewing statistics to streaming companies.
Just wait for 3rd party clips of the AI show, donβt watch out of morbid curiosity. Love and hate are identical to internet companies, indifference is what they fear

Claude Sonnet 4.5 describes the image as: "This image shows a scene from the British science fiction television series "Blake's 7," which aired from 1978 to 1981. The setting appears to be the flight deck of the spacecraft Liberator, characterized by its distinctive retro-futuristic design with dark walls, geometric light panels, and console stations featuring colorful buttons and controls. Two crew members are seated at the control stations. On the left is Michael Keating, wearing a brown and burgundy leather jacket, and on the right is Paul Darrow in a black vest over a grey shirt. Both actors are focused on operating the ship's controls, their hands positioned over the illuminated console panels with their characteristic green and multicolored button arrays. The set design reflects the aesthetic of late 1970s science fiction television, with its angular architecture and practical lighting effects" Blakes7Bot, version 4.0.34. KAYN: Oh, yes, sorry. One thing I will say for the Federation, when they decide to do a thing, they do it. [Blake and Kayn exit.]
VILA: I didn't like the sound of that much.
AVON: One of the many faces of neutrality.

[sigh] Another author following me along with the 32k others on his follow list. Reported as a spammer and blocked. It's not even a genre I talk about; my uninformed guess is someone importing Dreadnaught Holiday's followers list. Where are authors on Bluesky getting this advice for self-publicity?
Best wishes. I hope she makes it to her birthday, and in good enough condition to enjoy it even if she's not well.
Lots of US replies bleating "this is for the US audience". An audience that apparently doesn't understand that if Trump annexes Greenland the Greenlanders lose those things, the USians don't gain them.
the knitters too. this is the top pattern on ravelry right now
And because I mentioned SEO in a rant about spam followers, I got a spam like from some bot that scoops up expired domains and offers SEO optimisation...
(This is why I wish Bluesky had an option to remove someone from "followed by" without having to fully block them - it allows someone who genuinely wants to read/reply to still do so where you're not quite sure whether it's a spam follow.)

New follower on Bluesky. Following 67K, followed by 66k, novelist and screenplay writer. I suspect they're using the various writer hashtag games to find people to spam-follow, so insta-block. My "followed by" is not your billboard/SEO.

Only in translation, but Jules Verne was an important part of my childhood sf reading.

#WritersCoffeeClub 15th Jan 2026. How human are your protagonists? What about your antagonists?
Majority are Homo sapiens. The rest are a mix of mythological beings, alien species, and AIs - real ones, not the scraperbot nonsense being peddled by techbros. They're all people. (Not the techbros.)

Thanks for linking to that. It's a superb article.
When I was in digs at university my baby brother came to stay for a couple of nights. I came home from lectures to find he'd defrosted a week's worth of meat from the freezer, eaten the lot, and was now complaining that I was starving him. *Thanks*, parents, for dumping him on me and then laughing.
[sticks fingers in ears] la la la, I can't hear you...
I'm technically old enough to be a great grandmother. When did that happen?
My order of #FountainPen ink from Van Dieman Inks has arrived safely. Swatches from gloating over the Preciouses will have to wait until I get home, though.
Not sure if I want to share the Odysseus with the Eastercon meet. :-) It's now out of stock, and I can see myself using a lot of it.
#WritersCoffeeClub β 12 Jan. How do you get to know your characters before you start writing?
Mostly I get to know them once I start writing. This is why I sit down to write a short story and end up with a novel.
Yes! I have just bought the last (in this run, at least) bottle of Van Dieman Greek Heroes Odysseus #FountainPen ink in the company's own shop, after failing to nab it from the UK stockist before they sold out.
Of course, this meant a few other inks fell into the basket while I was there...
