Eugene M. Isenberg Chair in Integrative Studies and Director of the Virtual Center for Supernetworks, UMass Amherst, plus on the Board of Directors of the Kyiv School of Economics (KSE). My first language is Ukrainian. I like to write books. I love OR.
Everyone @isenbergumass.bsky.social is SO nice. In this day & age, having a student hold the door for you (when you're laden down with tech & books) & greet you nicely; staff that respond promptly to requests & help, and custodial staff that chat with you in your classroom at 8AM, make my day.
I do think that, no matter how busy one may be, if someone reaches out, who very much wants to meet with you, that you should, at least, try. This afternoon I will be meeting a Ukrainian PhD student, who, after a conference in Florida, requested a meeting. Supporting young scholars is important.
So many #supplychain + #logistics challenges now because of the war on Iran including that of perishability of food imports, if they can even get to parts of the Middle East www.bbc.com/news/article... #Supplychain #disruptions and #geopolitical #risks we continue to research and publish on.
As unpaid TSA officers brace to miss their first full paycheck, absenteeism is leading to longer wait times at airport security checkpoints.
Gorgeous day in @townofamherst.bsky.social, with the snow finally starting to disappear. It was nice to lecture in a skirt suit today (for 4 hours) and now it's time for office hours. My students are energizing.
Tomorrow, March 11, we mark the 15th anniversary of the Fukushima triple disaster and, today, in my Humanitarian Logistics & Healthcare class @isenbergumass.bsky.social, I will remind students of this catastrophic disaster. www.motherjones.com/politics/202...
I received a request today from an institution in a country in Europe asking me to review proposals with a deadline of two weeks without any compensation, I might add. I declined and then received a message to provide names of possible reviewers. I can't impose on others such a tight deadline.
β‘οΈ Zelensky says 11 countries have asked Ukraine for help with interceptor drones, electronic warfare.
"Ukraine is ready to respond positively to requests from those who help us protect the lives of Ukrainians," he said.

This is something I told a journalist from Marketplace a week ago. And now I am reading about it, thanks to Peter Goddman, in @nytimes.com www.nytimes.com/2026/03/07/b... Our research on #agricultural & #food #supplychains & #disruptions continues.
Deer visiting us for breakfast this morning in @townofamherst.bsky.social. Not much is left if the arborvitae that we had planted only a few years ago which they have been devouring.
I spent most of this Sunday nominating well-deserving students for awards. It was a pleasure to write the nomination letters and to gather all the supporting materials. Keeping fingers crossed. Students are the future.
These are determined folks. Luckily, we did not need to rescue them.
It's a busy time for those of us how do research on and teach courses on Transportation & Logistics. This book I wrote with a former @isenbergumass.bsky.social PhD student, now Professor Qiang, is as relevant as ever.

I visited Kenya for the first time. This country is distinguished by its incredible nature and friendly people. And also by the fact that it was here, 20 years ago, that the Nobel Women Initiative was launched.
Today's front page of @nytimes.com.
It's a very foggy Sunday morning in @townofamherst.bsky.social. Below is a view of the fields of the @umassamherst.bsky.social Agricultural Learning Center.

βThe default position that others can feed us is hardwired into the British state system, and indeed into the nature of how agrifood capitalism works in Britain. Others are wiser. β¦ What we glorify as efficiency is now vulnerability.β

And the students that send us thank you cards are extra special. I have some hanging in my home office.
Yes, and that is so sad. This world needs more kindness and gratitude.
The latest issue of @economist.com has arrived.
Thanks to all who have cited my work with a HUGE acknowledgment to all my collaborators! So nice to reach this milestone.
