Was gripped by BBC History Podcast serial Half-Life. Sometimes found music a bit much, but cool music nonetheless and all beautifully made by @fallingtreeprod.bsky.social . Fascinating interviews, subtle treatment of complicated story by โช@joedunthorne.bsky.socialโฌ www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m...

This has historical context - Information with capital i - and still lets you make your own story. Also has more than one interview playing at once yet still intelligible, which is a trick Iโve not heard before ๐ www.rte.ie/radio/docono...
Listening to a few of Kaye Mortleyโs docs and liking them but wishing for a little more story structure. But then listening to heavily explained ones and wishing to be left alone a bit to listen after my ears were used to free rein.
Iโve been listening to and watching a lot of documentaries this week for research and planning teaching. Itโs inspiring and also emotionally draining. And now I have to go Christmas food shopping, which is quite the wake up call.
โItโs made me challenge how you can tell a storyโฆ weโre in danger of having a really beige audio landscapeโ
โI found Short Cuts to be one of the most beautiful, creative and diverse podcasts availableโ

The skipping was recorded with binaural mics in the boxer's ears. That places the listener inside the bubble and maybe in some sense inside the interior world of the thoughtful boxer.
XG says a skipping rope forms a bubble around the person skipping. And within this bubble the skipper retreats, interiorises.
In the opening monologue a boxer lists all the domestic duties that preoccupy her. Her thoughts go round and round while the sound of a skipping rope is relentless.
This series on women who box is put together with meticulous consideration for each element by director Xavier Gibert of RFILabo @rfi.bsky.social #radio #podcast rfi.fr/fr/podcasts/...

I also find it a bit frustrating how fast it all rattles past. But I listened to two US docs I won't name on the same evening that explained everything.very.slowly and to be honest that drives me completely mad. Give me a stream of consciousness in movements any day.
