How democratic is the UK?
The UK has a crisis of democracy
Health and social care handed to corporations.
Profits of 32%-43% from cataract surgery.
Profit margins of up to 21% for child fostering services.
19% – 25% profit margin for residential care for children.
Money buys less. Corporate profits guaranteed. Who asked the people?

I know there's a lot wrong with the BBC but it makes my soul sink at the thought of it not being there and things like Small Prophets only being on Netflix, which costs more than the license fee anyway.

Reform fury as someone else wins
by Our By-election Editor
Tim Shipsink
The losing candidate in the Gorton and Denton by-election, Matt Goodwhinge, has demanded an immediate re-run of the election on the grounds that he lost
comprehensively to someone else.
"It's totally unfair and rigged,"
said Goodwhinge.
"I shouldn't
be required to sit there and suck it up, just because I lost."
Mr Goodwhine continued, *I can't believe that all those voters I demonised failed to back me.
Especially after I was endorsed by Tommy Robinson and ten million Russian bots on X.
"We have clear evidence of family voting, where people voted in order for me to stop deporting their families."
Mr Badloser concluded. "I'm the victim of colour prejudice.
They didn't vote for me simply because I'm not green."
Reform leader
Mr Farage,
speaking from a sun lounger on a rock near the Chagos Islands said,
"It's a tragedy that the people of Manchester won't see Matt in Westminster, but my constituents don't see me in Clacton either."
PLUMBER DEFEATS

I've stopped the cock
Beautiful from Private Eye on the massive toddler-tantrum that Matt Goodwin and Reform are having, because they got whooped in Gorton and Denton.

A photo of the front cover of issue 1670 of Private Eye magazine, with the caption “on shelves now.” The main headline reads “TRUMP ATTACKS IRAN,” with a subheading “HOW OPERATION EPIC FURY UNFOLDED.” The cover features four photo panels set in the situation-room with US political figures seated around a table. Speech bubbles add dialogue: “Is the Supreme Leader dead?” followed by “No, Trump always looks like this!”; “Mission accomplished!” answered with “Yes, I’ve killed the Epstein story”; “What happens next?” with the reply “Popular revolt and regime change,” and a follow-up, “In America?”; and finally, “Why have you started this war?” answered with “So that I can stop it,” alongside “I’ll ring the Nobel Committee.”

Almost feel sorry for the haters who are trying to spin Muslims voting for a woman in a party led by a gay Jewish man is evidence of Islamist sectarianism
In fact it's evidence of genuine tolerance, rejection of superficial identity politics and ability to prioritise tackling common concerns of cost of living, protecting public services and rejecting war mongering.
And the promotion of mutual respect and individual freedoms.
The coming together of people is terrifying for the ruling elites.
Totally this.
The rightwing hate “journalists” are spinning Muslims voting for a woman in a party led by a gay Jewish man as Islamist sectarianism.

That's the way to do it. So good to see progressive politicians pushing back hard on Reform's messaging. Highly effective and so refreshing and Labour could learn a lot from Polanski in this regard. Take the attack to the Faragists - don't let them get away with it.

Please watch Dirty Business, C4, outlining what is essentially an organised crime network making a fortune out of the UK water infrastructure.
It seems we can't re-nationalise - our govt would prefers not to rock the boat.

With Keep Our NHS Public @KONP, we say the public should be consulted on all new finance initiatives. #NHS

Events go back to 2018-2019. Why 8 year wait?
Company has 125+ criminal convictions.
No exec ever fined/prosecuted.
Fines announced in 2024 were later waived. The same likely again

UK is set to be among worst hit by Trump's 15% tariff, analysis suggests
US allies will suffer the biggest hit from the president's latest announcement, think tank Global Trade Alert says.
UK set to be among the countries worst hit if US President Donald Trump's 15% global tariff goes ahead.
Trump engages in illegal practices. His promises/treaties mean nothing.
He said 10% after the SCOTUS judgement, then 15%. Next week?

The Guardian view on Donald Trump and the climate crisis: the US is in reverse while China ploughs ahead | Editorial
Editorial: The president’s destructive policies enrich fossil fuel billionaires, while Beijing has bet big on the green transition
“Clean energy drove more than 90% of China’s investment growth last year”.
The new Industrial Revolution is here and we‘re going to miss the boat if we listen to fossil fuel gimps like Trump, Farage and Tice — renewables are the present as well as the future.

Sewage spills in London and South East worse than ever this year
Some overflows have been releasing sewage into rivers non-stop for over a week as the network struggles to deal with wet weather
This government promised to be tough on sewage pollution.
Thames Water has polluted for 80,000 hours in the first six weeks of 2026 alone.
That's a 75% increase on the same period last year.
Regulation has FAILED. It's time for public ownership of water.
