Today (Feb 22) at 3pm is the next Yachats Academy of Arts and Sciences presentation. We hope that you can join us at the Yachats Lions Club where marine biologist, Carrie Newell, will present her research and observations of Oregon resident gray whales.
Do you know Scarback? Scarback is one of the Oregon Coast’s most famous resident gray whales named due to a very distinguishable scar that was probably caused by a harpoon. Come learn about gray whales and the unique personalities of our resident gray whales such as Scarback, Eagle Eye and Ghost.
The next Yachats Academy of Arts and Sciences presentation will be February 22, 2026 at 3pm at the Yachats Lions Club, 344 4th St, Yachats, OR 97498. Note that this is a different location than normal.

During her January 11, 2026 presentation sponsored by the Yachats Academy of Arts and Sciences Dr. Carol Paty, co-investigator on NASA’s Europa Clipper mission, will expand on what will occur when the Europa Clipper arrives at Jupiter in April 2030.
University of Oregon professor, Dr. Carol Paty, will present on NASA's Europa Clipper Mission to Jupiter's ocean moon. A primary objective is to learn whether conditions suitable for life might exist there. And, Dr. Paty will touch on her role in this quest. Come share in the excitement.
