A whole lot of people still believe that games journalists are being bribed to give stuff positive scores.
Games journalists are, almost universally, broke-ass weirdos in it almost purely for the love of the game. Nobody's getting paid under the table. If anyone was, word would get out SO quick.

the so-called problem here is that due to its ideological orientation, the left can never offer an answer to this question that’s as immediately gratifying (if specious) as ‘manipulate and control women’

Working retail I'd engage in malicious compliance in a store where we were actively encouraged to discriminate against poor people by inspecting their coats in changerooms. I thoroughly checked a lady's mink-coat. Policy. She stormed out literally yelling, demanding my name (I yelled my name back).
Working retail I'd screw with ppl who were being gross or rude. Eg one guy when hed get nickels for change would say "once you get one beaver ur bound to get more!" and lick his teeth.
First time he said that to me I said deadpan "what do u mean?" I made him explain slowly. He was so uncomfortable
