Infographic titled “Important Postmark Changes: What Vote by Mail Voters Need to Know.” It explains that mail postmark rules have changed. Previously, mail was postmarked the day it was mailed; now it is postmarked the day it is processed, which can cause a 1–2 day delay. Vote by mail ballots must be postmarked by Election Day to be counted, and late postmarks will not be counted. If returning a ballot close to Election Day, voters should go to the post office counter and request a manual postmark, use a secure drop box if available, or deliver the ballot directly to their election authority’s office. The graphic ends with a reminder: “Don’t risk a late postmark—take one extra step to make sure your vote counts,” and advises voters to check with their election authority for drop box locations and office hours.

In Chicago, Primaries Can Decide Winners. So Why Is Turnout Low? Low awareness is just one reason people don't turn out for primary elections, experts say. This means elected officials in safe districts can be voted into office by a relatively small percentage of people.

Chicago’s primaries often have low turnout, but voting matter! That’s why She Votes IL is supporting Chicago Votes’ Parade to the Polls.

2/ Forcing a person to undergo a medical procedure they explicitly objected to is a violation of dignity, autonomy, and basic human rights. Are these human rights violations a direct result of people incarcerated not having the right to vote? They have no representation. No one to hold accountable.

Woman sues Illinois, alleging she was forced to give birth early while incarcerated at Logan Correctional Center A woman is suing the state of Illinois and the Illinois Department of Corrections, alleging the state prison system forced her to give birth before she was due. Amy Hicks was in custody at the Logan Correctional Center in Lincoln in early 2024, held on a drug conviction. Over her objections, she was taken to a hospital and labor was induced two weeks before her due date.

1/ What happened to Amy Hicks at Logan Correctional is deeply disturbing.

While in the custody, she was forced to induce labor against her will. The IL RHA affirms that reproductive decisions belong to the individual. That protection does not stop at the prison gate.
