This was an extremely long story in the making; possibly the longest we’ve ever worked on a single investigative story. It’s a 3 part series due to how complex the issue is, but the most startling aspect is the fact that out of hundreds of felony arrests, only one trial was held in Carson in 2023.

Which also cracks me up because statistically kids can barely read nowadays anyway. Proficiencies are so low and it is a BATTLE to get most kids to pick up a book for a grade let alone for fun. Like do they think 6th graders are out there begging for the bluest eye and Ulysses? 😂

..it doesn’t mean the listener is absorbing anything less than a visual reader. My mother is blind and probably gets through like 3-4 books a week while I average maybe one a month. Also, the Cambridge dictionary defines reading as “the skill or activity of getting information from books”

There’s actually different categories of reading by definition, the important ones to this discussion being: A visual reader (what you’re referring to) and an aural/auditory reader. Reading simply is the act of absorbing information from written material. While reading via listening may be slower…

Probably because on the international scale, US liberals are still highly conservative, especially compared to European countries that provide basic social safety nets and health care. The Youth are far more into democratic socialism than liberalism. Other than the ones into fascism of course lol

I literally cannot finish anything without a firm deadline.

I gave myself a deadline of my birthday (6 days from now) to have the first draft of my book completed. I still have about a dozen scenes to go, and the baby decided today to pop out her third tooth. Last time teething lasted two weeks. This is how I die.

Took my cool baby teen cousin thrifting today and talked music. She says she loves midwestern emo but has never heard of Bright Eyes or Brand New. Instead loves MCR and the Smiths. Says she isn’t into pop punk, but likes Blink 182. I am so, so confused by these kids lmao.

What’s funny is, I remember being very small and watching a Blues Clues episode and it was either in the show or a commercial that said “Remember kids, fructose rhymes with gross!” And it made a core memory lol. No chance that’d be allowed to be broadcast today.

You’ve gotta just routinely announce that you’re pregnant with enough time in between to make it plausible. Although the one time I finally WAS pregnant it took a lot of convincing for them to believe it 😂

Oh that’s awesome! Her world building was my favorite part — I wanted to keep delving in. Have you read Camp Zero? It’s a newer one and has similar cool world building, though it’s more genre and less literary.
