The Globe's explanation for why comments are closed on @marshalederman.bsky.social's column about the war, and indeed on every story about the Middle East, sure is a commentary on our society in this moment.

Royalties are an absolute beast to manage—they are complicated, convoluted, and they are also very, very important. Huge gratitude to the indie presses who have made their systems available to others so we don't have to suffer like they did. It is a game-changer.

For the first time ever, I have reported and remitted royalties to our authors 1) before the absolute last minute, and 2) without stress, and I'm just going to take a moment and sit with this contentment.

We always get a ton of spam when we launch a @kickstarter.com campaign. In the past it's been in-platform messaging. Now it's from people pledging at a significant reward level, making a public comment, then cancelling the pledge. Wreaks havoc on tracking our progress. Why are people gross.

This is very warranted cynicism. What a massive mess.

I mean, that's the only reasonable way to think about it. Your kid will be nearing the end of high school, no doubt, by the time this school is ready for students.

Part of a ruling in a discrimination lawsuit against a transphobic school trustee. "Calling transness “gender ideology” allows anti-trans activists to hide behind a veneer of reasonableness. It allows them to say, as Mr. Neufeld did in his statements as well as at the hearing of this complaint, that they are not attacking human beings. They are simply opposing a set of ideas. But behind this insidious veneer is the proposition that transness is not real. Such phrasing can make it easier to ignore that trans people are human beings. Referring to “gender ideology” or “transgenderism” – “-ism” denoting a belief or ideology such as capitalism or communism – pushes the idea that trans people have an agenda rather than being just another demographic group. As this decision illustrates, such terms can create the conditions for discrimination and hatred to flourish."

It is absolutely WILD that it took so long. There has never once been issued, from any level of government, a clear or acceptable reason why this school wasn't built 19(!!!) years ago.

This egregious timeline didn't only affect residents of Olympic Village. It had bizarre and toxic ripple effects.

It's one of those things that made Canadians delight so much in the book and tv "stupid Canadian wolf bird." That bird is on our currency, y'all.

It's like a cycle that adapts to a prominent issue every few years, but really does come down to everyone having the right to say hateful stuff, and others having the right to block them or not do business with them as a consequence.

In yarn, it's about the red hats, and some companies telling influencers they can't mention the companies in posts even remotely about politics (even as these companies are apparently sold out of red yarn).

In fabric it's about hateful rhetoric being excluded, and cries that that is unfair.
