Two of the most talented players I ever saw at United. One was able to produce week in week out , the other sadly less consistent

85 fa cup final. My dad punched the tv and turned it off in disgust when Moran was sent off. My mum and I retreated to the bedroom to listen to it on the radio. Fortunately my dad had put the tv back on in time for the goal!
E. Z- for first touch!
A- justified for that one magical season. Faded a bit each season after (but then so did the team!!)
A+ !
F massive disappointment!
C. He had all the right attributes but always seemed to have one error per game in him
F. Maybe harsh but nowhere near good enough. A+ for taking long kicks from the keeper down on his chest
Donβt blame him. He wrote that, took a look around and thought fuck this!
A. I define world class as making a world XI and at his best he would have been in that for me
Easy B. But I think he A+ for goalscoring (i.e. in his position!)
E. He was A before we bought him and I was never more excited by a signing but despite changing our system to accommodate him it just didnβt work out. If you watch highlights of him you would say B but I remember massive frustration at the time
For the middle few years A with Irwin A+
B overall. Shotstopping A+ but command if his area D or worse!
B+ only because I keep world class for those who would have made a world XI. Hero of mine. A+ for volleys!
It isnβt Juve 99, it is the fact that for about 5 years he played that well every single game . That one game is rightly elevated for the goal, occasion , yellow card but he always played that well!
D overall , B in season 90/91 and A+ for suntanning
Not in the Scholes, Robson, Keane League, but a superb player
The surprising thing is not that it lasted 41 years , the surprising thing is it didnβt happen the last few years. I guess only because weβre not usually winning at half time !
Surprised the commentator didnβt say βit takes some shot to beat Shilton from that distanceβ because they all used to talk like he was still good even though he had been obviously shit for years !!
Good job social media wasnβt around then. Some of that squad would have had a tough time!(Davenport, Turner, the Gibsons, even Stapleton in his last year)
Did we really play that formation? I remember solskjaer and even Cole on the wing in 4-4-2s but no memory of Eric playing behind two strikers
Too many, but to give a random example, Maldini
Unbelievable player. Although he was lucky to win that award that season. It was voted for very early. He was terrible like most of the team the second half of 88/89!
Great thread. Every single top quality player who played with him had 100% respect for him.
It was actually 16-7 on his first day, but not taking away from how glorious it was that he managed to overtake them. Never thought I would see that in my lifetime!
Maldini
I was at the game and was a bit frustrated at 8-0 for a long time we really took our foot off the pedal. Could have been 10 easily. Greedy I know!
I loved reading that! Forget the next 10 days , Fergie had the better of wenger in the next three months. At that time I confess I thought arsenal would win the league again. 2002/03 was one of my favourite titles
That really is a thing of beauty!
