The Scale of Billionaires’ Campaign Donations is Overwhelming U.S. Politics

NEW: We just published a deep dive into just how much billionaires are now dominating U.S. politics.

We found 300 billionaire families accounted for 19% of federal donations in 2024. The deluge was even larger in many state and local races.

How the Roberts Court destroyed our Democracy

"Five presidential elections ago, before the Supreme Court’s 2010 ruling that lifted many remaining campaign finance restrictions, the share of billionaire spending was almost zero β€” 0.3 percent, to be precise."

Opinion | Who’s winning the U.S.-Iran war? Russia and China. Oil disruption benefits Russia, as does less U.S. aid for Ukraine. And Iran distracts from China.

While Trump has been bombing various countries, imposing tariffs, discouraging foreign students from coming to America, and cutting research funding, China has been making massive investments designed to dominate the industries of the future. wapo.st/4ui9QzJ

β€˜Dark, like our future’: Iranians describe scenes of catastrophe after Tehran’s oil depots bombed Residents report terror of smoke-filled city, from potentially toxic rain, air and water to food scarcity and difficulty of escape

β€œTehran is burning. And smoke has filled the streets. It’s impossible to drive out of the city right now and even with the windows closed, heavy smoke is making its way inside."

Keep in mind that it’s not just the cost of filling *your* tank which is skyrocketing…the cost to every *truck driver* is also spiking, which means the cost of whatever they’re transporting will go up as well…

"Trump has an insatiable need to make these moments about himself and his merch... He wore a gaudy baseball cap, available for purchase in his online store, during the entire dignified transfer of these heroes, declining to remove it as has always been the bare minimum and obvious etiquette."

There's something deeply obscene and broken about the fact that Donald Trump and Pete Hegseth are bombing elementary schools in an illegal war of aggression, and there's still a sense among the opposition that it has to be explained in terms of gas prices in order to get American voters to care.

There is a legal provision in immigration law that someone married to a US citizen can stay in the US while there visa is pending. Immigration officials have long recognized it to allow residency during the wait time. The DHS has just stopped following this part of the law.

Weird chart. What happened in 2025 in the US? Did political leadership change and then start systematically dismantling education, science, health care, and government, levying arbitrary tariffs, randomly attacking major US cities, and destroying the economy?

Just asking.

New NY Times ’visual investigation’ strongly suggests that the US fired the missile that hit the Minab school Saturday. (Though is very careful with its language to not say it conclusively.)

Iraq Veteran Pat Ryan: The Trump administration reiterated that they expect significant additional casualties. This seems like an ill-conceived, open-ended regime change war. Having been on the receiving end of one of those in Iraq, it is infuriating that the country I love is repeating history here

So basically the Republican argument is that it’s too late for Congress to do anything if the president launches a war or regime change without legislative authorization (or even consultation). So much for checks and balances.

(Reuters) - Turkey has drawn up plans to deal with a potential inflow of people fleeing the war in neighbouring Iran, Interior Minister Mustafa Ciftci said on Wednesday, with preparations including possible buffer zones along the frontier and tent camps.

I'm sorry, if you're going to make a big show about how you've got a Department of WAR helmed by a Secretary of WAR and staffed by WARfighters, it's totally inane to then claim that your massive bombing of a foreign country constitutes something other than a war.
