“Immigrant Family” by Tom Otterness. This reminds me of “The Arrival” by Shaun Tan and more importantly of my mom’s family. Maybe I should visit my Papa’s plaque at Pier 21 in 2026. In any case, this is it - a year’s worth of “pictures of the day”. The daily commitment has been a bit much so while I’ll still post photos of things I find interesting, it is going to be more irregular moving forward. I want to spend more time reading, writing, and on video creation, and a lot less time on social media in 2026 … for whatever resolutions are worth :). I missed you were talking strikeout rate. I don’t know how to systematically weed out unqualified hitters so I’ll take your word for it. I’ll also say that if striking out a 1/4+ of the time puts you 31st in MLB, that is a sad commentary on the sport.

Also I don’t think he is just outside of the top 30. He appears to be third worst in MLB. 1 of the guys with more Ks also had more home runs, and the other played defence regularly. Neither of them had a couple former MVPs (and future HOFers) behind them protecting them in the lineup.

It’s funny how stats can be positioned - Ohtani may be 3% above average in strikeouts (I’d have to check) which doesn’t sound awful, but he is also 2nd percentile, which is awful. And he does that with 2 future hall of famers behind him in the lineup. He’s a great player with flaws, not underrated.

I have a tough time thinking of Shohei as underrated in any way. Why does no one talk about how often he strikes out? If a K is the best thing a pitcher can do it stands to reason it is one of the worst things a hitter can do. His 2025 stats look an awful lot like Chris Davis 2013 stats.
