Moving on to the next series of videos with Mahadeo Sukhai @ideastemcanada.bsky.social where I asked him all of my naive questions regarding DEI (Diversity, Equity and Inclusion). In this first video I ask him what DEI is and why I sometimes see the letters in a different order.

I love her reaction afterwards as she says "That's what I'm f*ing talking about." Her joy is infectious.

This resonates so much! If I had a dollar every time someone asked me to point them towards a career I would be so much richer! This is why I love regular reviews of needs and values to ensure that even if the path is unusual, it is the right path for you.
Happy birthday to one of my favourite haters, Charles Darwin
I look forward to seeing everyone in San Francisco in March!
This is my most viewed video and it all concerns #GraduateSchool interview questions. Good luck if you are interviewing this year and please share widely. This is going to be a very competitive year and if this helps give someone the edge I will be very happy!

Please share as with the reduced number of #GradSchool spots available, this year is going to be particularly challenging.
Congratulations you have been invited to participate in interviews for graduate school. Here is some advice for before, during and after the interview.

It is the time of year for those in high school and undergrad to apply for summer internship programs. Having run one for many years and read thousands of applications, here is my advice. Please share the video as they are fiercely competitive.

Just had a chat about an upcoming presentation in February. I will be tailoring my negotiation talk more than usual for this institution based on their feedback from last year. This is the real joy of being able to provide a service specifically for each population depending on their needs.
I am 2 episodes in to a certain documentary and had to go and watch this, then look up the words so I could follow along better. I think tomorrow might be a 2Pac kind of day as I prepare for Christmas!

Crumbs, the author of this article is incredibly brave and resilient. I know from talking with friends with disabilities that the ability to work with accommodations is littered with hoops you have to navigate. I hope that she is able to complete her PhD and continue to have a prosperous career.
The final video in the series on starting a business is available. In this video, we'll answer some key questions about the realities of having a business: What are the pluses and minuses of having your own business? Would you do it again?

I highly recommend the biography of Francis Crick by @matthewcobb.bsky.social if you want to know more about the man behind the myth, or are just interested in the history of molecular biology π§ͺ
I thought I knew a little about Crick, but it turns out I didn't

Thankyou MacKenzie Scott for showing how million and billionaires should act. Hoarding your wealth versus helping others. 100 years ago people gave generously to hospitals, libraries, universities etc to help their fellow humans rather than saving every penny!
If you are a University of California postdoc or project scientist currently working on an H1-B visa and have been impacted in some way by the $100,000 visa fee, check your email. Our union is a plaintiff and is looking or affected members to include in the lawsuit against it.
