Takeaways from Washington Spirit’s start-of-season roster Washington Spirit released their start-of-season roster this afternoon, in anticipation of the season opener Friday night. Most of the 28-player roster are returning from last year's squad, while newbies include a mix of players previously loaned to the Gainbridge Super League, experienced international players, and young players on short-term contracts. The full roster is below, followed by some of our biggest takeaways from the announcement.

Thanks to Japan’s 4-0 victory over Vietnam, DC Power’s Carleigh Frilles and Katrina Guillou and the Philippines WNT will advance to the quarterfinals at the AFC Women’s Asian Cup, where they will face Japan.

Denim makes a comeback, Wandering Spirits excel away from home, and more: Tuesday Freedom Kicks Morning DC Footy Folks! Yesterday was a fantastic day in the District and today may be even better! I am hoping that the weather holds through this weekend as I will be participating in the District Soccer Cherry Blossom Soccer Tournament (there's still time to register your team!). Anyways, onto the footy news! There was much playing time for Spirit/Power players over the international break, but most importantly no injuries as the Spirit home opener comes into focus.

International Recap: Power FC and Spirit Players in the March International Window The international window for March closed this weekend (with the exception of the AFC Women’s Cup) after a full slate of matches. Let’s see how they did. Esme Morgan (England) The Lionesses faced Iceland in their second league play match of World Cup qualifying and cruised to a comfortable 2-0 victory behind goals from Lucy Bronze and Georgia Stanway. England dominated possession (71% to 29%), shot attempts (31 to 1), shots on goal (7 to 1) and corners (7 to 1).

DC United lose to Messi, DC Power win, and more: Monday Freedom Kicks Happy Monday, y'all. It was a busy weekend of soccer and soccer moments. Spirit Fest was a lot of fun yesterday and I'm excited for the home openers for DC Power on Thursday (their spring home opener, at least) and the Spirit on Friday! During this international window, with the Spirit in preseason, 5 players played a full 90 minutes at some point. Rudd, Morgan, and Di Guglielmo all did it once. MacIver twice in goal. Santos did it in every game in the SheBelieves Cup(3 total). She is clearly ready for the season.

DC United Inter Miami CF recap DC United The sellout crowd of over 72,026 made M&T Bank Stadium into a busy ball of energy. After a foggy, dreary afternoon, the sun came out just in time for kickoff between the defending champions Inter Miami and a DC United team trying to make Baltimore their home away from home. It was also the first time Lionel Messi had played against DC United in the DMV since he arrived in MLS in July 2023.

#DCU fought to try and overcome a 2-0 deficit. But before a sellout crowd in Baltimore, they fall 2-1 to Lionel Messi and Inter Miami. #MLS

DC Power FC beats Brooklyn FC on the road in terrific display DC Power FC returned to the win column today as they earned a 2-0 win on the road against Brooklyn FC. A 32nd minute goal by Alyssa Walker along with a 63rd minute goal by Loza Abera were the difference in this game. DC Power had a few players away due to international duty, but still were able to put out a strong lineup in a match that was rescheduled up from mid-April due to Brooklyn FC having a stadium conflict.

DC Power get the 2-0 win on the road against Brooklyn FC to give them a shot of momentum and a boost in the #USLSL standings.

Wojdelko has officially entered the chat. Big save at close range followed by a leaping save on a shot from distance keeps it 1-0 DC.

DC United vs. Inter Miami CF: Preview, time, and how to watch DC United heads up the road to Baltimore this afternoon to take on Inter Miami in a MLS home-away-from-home match. The Black-and-Red look to rebound from a 1-0 loss to Austin FC, but also have to compete against the defending MLS Cup champions. The game will be a spectacle where over 50,000 fans are expected to attend. However, in a way DC United are treating this as a road trip with similar logistics.

With Morgan Aquino still on international duty with Australia, Sara Wojdelko is expected to get the start for DC Power against Brooklyn FC this afternoon. Spirit fans will be able to see her on the field for the first time since she was loaned to Power a couple weeks ago.

DC Power FC @ Brooklyn FC: Preview, time, and how to watch DC Power FC hits the field after a 3 week layoff this afternoon when they face Brooklyn FC in Coney Island. DC Power is looking to grab more points to move up in the Gainbridge Super League standings. This match was supposed to be played in April at Maimonides Park. However, Brooklyn FC ran up on a scheduling conflict with the Brooklyn Cyclones, the minor league baseball team who owns the park, and asked DC Power to play this weekend.

International Round Up: DC Power and Spirit International Players The past week was chock full of soccer featuring DC Power and Washington Spirit players on international duty. In total, 11 players from the Spirit or Power took the field. Let’s take a look at how they did. Rebeca Bernal (Mexico) Mexico resumed their Concacaf W Championship (and 2027 World Cup) qualifying campaign against Saint Lucia in Gros Islet. Overall, the match was a comfortable affair for El Tri.
