We live in capitalism. Its power seems inescapable. So did the divine right of kings. Any human power can be resisted and changed by human beings. Resistance and change often begin in art, and very often in our art, the art of words.

If gas prices are going to the moon, maybe it's time for places to start finally funding an alternative
do yourself a favor folks, if you're 26 or younger, make a plan to dodge the draft. it's not making the problem about you -- the child you don't go overseas to kill will thank you for it in fact. and if it doesn't come to pass, better to have a plan and not need it than need it and not have it
*POV (I can't write today).
I think this fear is unfounded, Ray. If your writing were to be anything like your videos, I strongly believe every thesis would be well-supported, rational, contextualized, and defensible from multiple perspectives.
But from a purely selfish POB, I feel I am much more likely to watch than read rn.
This is vibes-only but...single-stair just feels safer. Instead of a single wall of windows and a long hallway, like you find in a double-loaded corridor building, a single-stair building has the stairs right outside your unit. And you've got windows on 2 or 3 sides, not just 1.
From what I'm gathering, it feels like most Washington County leaders do not feel there will be a need for TriMet in 10 years, and that most transit trips will be replaced my "emerging technologies" (read: Waymo or RideConnection).
Honestly, at this point, I do not feel comfortable with the Frequent Express (FX) brand being associated with this project. They should keep the blue & orange scheme and the number 57. A decrease of headways from *15* to *12* (which will also probably get cut) is not enough to justify a rebrand.

They are going to be shelters, which I guess is nice, and *maybe* a few more crosswalks. Other than that, the only change to the status quo will be the fucking livery.
Abysmal.
So apparently the TV HWY Transit Project has been watered down even further--TriMet says they're only going to be using 40' buses: that means NO ARTICS on a fucking FX ROUTE! This project will have:
- no dedicated ROW
- no signal priority
- no 60-footers
It's literally just a bus... a green bus.
Too bad the transit here is uhhhhβ¦. suboptimal
And here's an amazing visualization of the proposed Vista Bridge, also from 1922. Long before Photoshop or computer renderings, someone in the city's public works department has painted this into a photograph. Sure, the perspective is a bit wonky, but this is still beautiful work!
One thing I feel ought to be discussed more is the fact that basically all rural and suburban places in the US are subsidized by cities. They resent cities. They insult cities. They elect politicians who abuse cities. But none of them could survive without cities.
The doohickey wasnβt a βgoodβ connection to hill, though. Having worked on the hill, dropping you off on the other side of Terwillager doesnβt get you anywhere: youβre left with a steep incline most patients wouldnβt be able to handle, which gets you to Casey Eye, which isnβt anything.
truly exceptional timing for the oregon legislature to abandon the effort to properly fund transit.
can't afford the price of gas? want to drive less? too bad, we're cutting transit service statewide! #orleg
I can start posting problematically if you need something to entertain you.
I bet I could do a convincing bit on the dangers of public housing. I know the script well enough.
Thereβs no shortage of professionally licensed traffic engineers who will tell you that decommissioning I-5 is impossible, but also canβt explain how Vancouver BC functions (almost too well, given housing demand) with no freeway running through the center of the city
ODOT wasn't "saddled with debt" by an act of God or nature - it "saddled itself" with debt through decades of deceitful, incompetent management, flawed planning, intentionally opaque finance and a passive, rubber stamp commission - and a legislature and Governors who kept rewarding poor performance. The so-called "crisis" is entirely self-created. - David Bragdon

For the cost of the Moda Center bill they could give every Portland resident $920.
"AVs almost by definition lower the friction and costs associated with driving ... And we already know, from the last century-plus of experience in the US, what happens when we make driving easier: We will get more of it. And more concrete and asphalt infrastructure to accommodate it."
Another win for the political theory that "they're all just 12 years old on the inside."
No, they should channel their anger into getting challengers lined up to primary incumbents who refuse to fight like our futures arenβt on the line.
advocates mad at me for defunding sidewalks in front of schools so we can spend that money on Literally Nothing should take it up with my republican colleagues, who I love and cherish and look forward to working with next year. my name is kate lieber and I approve this message
Did I miss the memo on musical chairs?
Las Vegas. They said nothing. No one mentioned it. Iβm pretty sure I was the only one who saw it.
