Super Mario Bros is a great film.
Just a terrible game adaptation.

Unabashedly love the 93 film. The fungus. Toad & his harmonica. Iggy & Spike turning on Koopa when he evolves their intellect. Hot Luigi. Everyone doing the dinosaur. Hopper & Shaw chewing the scenery to pieces. Yoshi. Daisy is a paleontologist. The Brooklyn ladies escaping the castle. Bertha!
Suggestions for the Bank of England:
Β£5 note: Calopteryx damselfly with anti-forgery detail of the horned penis, used for removing stored sperm in the female (1/4)
The video is quite beautiful.
And now I'll forever think of the Founders from #StarTrekDS9 as slime moulds.
And maybe The Thing.
youtu.be/bkVhLJLG7ug?...
I have spent the morning wiki-hopping, & reached slime moulds. If I understand correctly, they gather in the thousands, have an almighty battle royale with chemical weapons to decide who can reproduce, then form a superstructure with the losers dying off to raise the winners up to the light. Epic.
The most stunning organism. Hard to believe it is a single-cell! It's literally from another realm, but it looks like it's from another dimension
"We cannot give food to someone who is hungry, soap to someone who has none or gifts to someone to bring cheer on a holiday. Even handing someone a Q-tip to clean their ears is a violation."
"We all know that people in prison are not permitted to act like people. Every day we are ordered not to be too friendly or converse too much. We are ordered to not smile and laugh with staff because βundue familiarityβ is grounds for disciplinary action," writes Derek.
"If not accompanied by systematic change, using the term βincarcerated peopleβ is nothing more than window dressing."
Angry gray squirrel
A guy on my walk told me there was more interesting wildlife to photograph than squirrels π
Two house rabbits, lying snoot to boot. Facing us is a large grey lion head, so lots of fluff around his head. Facing away from us is a black mass in which you can just make out some floppy ears at the far end. They snuggled right up against each other.
It's taken 6 months, but the bunnies are bonded. Mac, the big grey, lost his brother, Isaac in September. He's been gradually warming up to Penny, the tiny black, and last weekend I was finally able to trust them together over night. Mac is a happier, hoppier boy already.
Spotted Warburton's "protein pitta" the other day. 8g of protein per pitta! Β£1.65
As compared to 5.8g in the own brand wholemeal pittas, Β£0.50. Or 6.9g in Warburton's standard pack, Β£1.20.
We really need to teach people to be more cynical around advertising.
The very picture of courage and conviction.
Nichols should not have had to do this to make her point, but Starmer & co weren't listening.
I see AI still can't get hands right.
From mandatory ID cards to arresting pensioners for holding up cardboard signs to cosy deals with US tech spy firms:
It's good to see lawyers pushing back on their increasingly authoritarian Govenrment.
We must protect jury trials.
Evidence of octopus sentience is landing in policy. Mexico has proposed a national ban on octopus farming, joining Chile and California in moving away from the practice.
Some dickhead had better not try to paint this great messed up old door in an even older wall or I am going over there with some people I know, and I am not kidding.
A THREAD, which I have decided to call 'Bloody Hell, Aren't Doors On Old Walls Fucking Brilliant?'
You will find the all-important captions to each photo in the alt text.
βPiracy is the most effective form of artistic distribution these days. So be it.β
-Werner Herzog on NPR just now π₯
We live in capitalism. Its power seems inescapable. So did the divine right of kings. Any human power can be resisted and changed by human beings. Resistance and change often begin in art, and very often in our art, the art of words.
BBC journalist outside RAF Fairford: "a demonstration of the size of the American firepower that they can bring to bear when these kinds of conflicts arise"
Such a good job the Americans have all that firepower for when, checks notes, America starts wars.
Ah, Paralympics, our 4 year reminder of what COULD BE if we just believed in accommodations in the regular world/society.
FUCK that shot is AMAZEBALLS.
β οΈ In Autumn 2025, multiple incidents took place in Edinburgh that involved food delivery riders being attacked while on the job, bike theft and other issues
π΄ The Workersβ Observatory supported a group of Edinburgh riders in surfacing the severity and the location of the risks they face on the job.
Today we published an interactive map of hyperscale data centre proposals in Scotland - for each you can click through to a website with maps, planning details and local campaign group, where there is one (we'll add more when we hear about them!)
Data centres are causing an energy crisis in parts of the US, with 13 states on the brink of rolling blackouts due to data centre energy pressure on the grid. Do we want the same to happen in Scotland? aprs.scot/news/the-cas... via @aprscotland.bsky.social
No hypocrisy. They assume those children are white. If not white, at least Christian. If not Christian well by gosh they will be once Place of Hope are done with them.
I donβt think Trump and his people are capable of engineering βdistractions,β I think the mind-numbing chaos we see every day is straightforwardly the result of giving the dumbest, cruelest, most corrupt, most selfish people of a generation near-unmitigated power
They had names. They had beautiful faces. And they had the same dreams as your kids - crushed when American "precision" bombs slammed into their Minab elementary school, killing 175
Don't blame AI for this. Blame the sick humans who see war as a game
My new column www.inquirer.com/opinion/iran...
The UK is allowing British military bases to be used to bomb Iran, and we are using our military forces to protect those launching the attacks from Iranian retaliation.
Yvette Cooper can call that 'defensive' as much as she likes. It doesn't change what it actually is. War.
I've just remembered the weirdest news story from the town I was living in a decade ago. Three separate human feet were found in a local park, over the course of a few months. Police investigated and announced 'nothing to be worried about, they're probably from somebody's private collection.'
