An acquaintance died a couple weeks ago. Just had a dream where I was sick, sitting on the couch, and he came up to me carrying an armful of large bars of chocolate. He offered me some. I said no, but he convinced me to break off 3 squares for myself.
"We had a long drive back from the tournament and our little guys had school the next day. While the grownups packed up, they ate McDonalds in the hotel lobby. They looked so precious in their matching sweaters and they all wore their first place medals! So proud of our big boys!"

This isn't about me and I'm persistent and will keep looking, but I'm either having terrible luck or lots of orgs just really suck at volunteer connection and engagement.
* One group did plug me into volunteer communications but only had slots currently for once-a-year fundraiser, which is not want I am good at or want to do.
* Only open volunteering meets during usual business hours
* submitted volunteer inquiry but received no response
* attended weekly open zoom call for more information and sat 15 min while leader was muted and did not respond to chats
Allowing that we are in stressful times but acknowledging I've been looking for about 2 years and not proceeding with groups that just want my money, here's my January volunteer group attempts with different local groups:

This is the pathos and praxis of conservative Christian preachers and pastors across the US. This is a made up story about regular people like you could hear any Sunday morning. And the stories will be different based on the needs of the sermon, but they'll be a lie all the same.
I take it back. Now Dem Senators have an atrocious deal. You can find numerous sources for it online. Every Dem senator, regardless of who votes yes or no, is responsible for not holding the line on cloture...for letting this through. Abolish ICE.
Senate Dems blocked the funding package. Good. It's late and we needed this energy sooner. But I'm reminded of a little saying about best time to plant trees. Lean into this! Keep going! Abolish ICE!

I'm autistic. These interactions are baffling to me at one level and I'll never know why they occurred. So instead I chose to believe they wanted human interaction, they wanted to be thanked in person, they wanted to be reminded they wouldn't be punished for doing the right thing.
Fifth month, now it's his son, same explanation. Do these guys not talk to each other??? But I did not show annoyance. Every time: We're volunteers. We appreciate your participation in the program. This data is NOT for enforcement. I saw some cool aquatic bugs today. I like your dog.
First month, I explain the what I'm doing spiel. Fine, he doesn't know me. Second month, deliver explanation again but in my mind I'm like "you don't remember me or the program you signed up for??" Third month, internally I'm ticked. C'mon dude, it's me...again. Why don't you know this???
I'll leave this with an anecdote. A couple years ago I volunteered with a waterway monitoring program. Every month I went to a stream by a farmer's field. And every month the farmer came out to find out who I was and what I was doing.
And Dems just aren't doing it. And they have such contempt for voters that they will tell them they have no idea what their own needs and wants are. And they will tell voters that their needs and wants are being met even when voters so no, they aren't.
And the Dems blame their own voters and blame the media and my hypothesis is this. I'm sorry it's not fair. Republicans have fear mastered and it's an easy short term driver. And Dems are the party of hope, supposedly, and that's harder. It means delivering good things from human hands.
Nobody is asking why Trump easily offset any Harris gains with previously non participatory voters with his own. Harris went hard for those Haley voters and got nothing. Harris went hard for getting non participants and lost, or at least broke even, there too.
Remember the supposed discontent of Haley primary voters? Remember the jokes about Republicans having no ground in 2024? Still no one has asked the questions about why Trump still won.
