Part of this was probably Tolstoy's self-insert character, Levin. The majority of the 817 pages I read focused on him. Even the final part cuts off from a major scene about Anna and it just tells me about Levin to the point there is almost no closure for the title character. This was also infuriating because it's boring, I'm not reading this book for this man, and female authors are ridiculed for inserting themselves into their books or "mary sue" characters and so on, and I'm supposed to be like wow this is one of the greatest novels ever and it was not interesting craftwise. The storytelling left a lot to be desired. I felt as if there were a lot of plots and subplots that amounted to nothing. Every time I sat there and was like WOW I'm so glad I'm reading this, it was ripped away from me. I am gonna contact Leo Tolstoy with an Ouija board. I will go out and buy an Ouija board just to contact him and be like "What the heck? Why didn't you just write two separate novels? One about Anna Karenina and another about. .. you?!"

Also, Kitty is gay. She should've ended up with Varenka. Kitty married just to see her again! And if I were to ever write historical fiction, I would write a retelling of this book about Kitty and Varenka and Kitty trying to fit into society while also watching the way everybody treats Anna because yeah, she has an affair but so is everybody else, but Anna was honest about it and is trying to live her best life. Don't ask, I just randomly decided on this narrative at some point during my reading of this book.
