Photograph of Keith, with curly hair, a trimmed beard, wearing thin rimmed glasses. His white shirt is dotted with dozens of tiny blue whales that can't really be deciphered in this photograph. The background is soft focus and he's slightly backlit.

Keith Gow is a playwright and theatre critic. His plays have been seen across Australia and in the UK and South East Asia. His most recent play, Turn Turn Turn (Theatre Works, 2023) was described by The Age as "an ambitious queer sci fi drama". Keith's critical writing has been published in The Saturday Paper, Time Out, Australian Arts Review, Witness Performance and on his own blog, Theatre First. His first book, Where's David Lynch?, will be published in 2026 by Smith Street Books.

New headshot and bio as part of the announcement that I am taking part in La Mama's IMMERSE program in 2026. A group of 8 mid-career writers will get together every week for 12 weeks to support each other in creating a new work of theatre. I'm excited to be involved!

A sparse novel exploring themes of conflict, love, betrayal & principles. Following two parallel stories; a soldier who escapes a nameless war in the Mediterranean, seeks refuge in the mountains & must decide what value to put on life. The other is a conference set during 9/11 a tribute (1/2)

THREAD: I got laid off from NYMag/Vulture after 14 years. The family lost 75% of income + medical. Now mzs.press bookstore, once a side project. is do-or-die for Judith & I. I feel weird telling you this because others are doing much worse. But if you could like or share this, we'd be so grateful!

A sweeping epic of the casualties of war, physical & psychological. Does not shy away from soldiers' experiences of violence & survival. The depiction of post-war Belgium & Germany were so visceral. #InternationalBooker2026 @thebookerprizes.com

Remembered Soldier was gut-wrenching and heartbreaking. Set in Belgium in 1922, still reeling from WW1 a soldier goes through memory loss and PTSD as a result of being in the front. One day, a woman claims that he is her long-lost husband & begins a quest for memory, love & guilt. (1/2)

It is literally the people who said "you can't say anything anymore" who are getting people arrested and harmed for saying things they don't agree with. Perhaps we misunderstood. I thought they were complaining, but maybe it was a warning/instruction

If you win most literary prizes, you pay tax. If you win The Block, you don’t. How is this fair? Australia’s laws are inconsistent when it comes to taxing winnings – and most artists and writers are the losers.

@evelynaraluen.bsky.social was on the money when she called for tax free prizes.

The PM's lit award is tax free, time to bring other prizes in line.
